      "I DID something!

I made you believe in the world I created, and I showed you parts of yourself you were too afraid to visit!"

            - Josh Washington

The son of successful film director Bob Washington and passionate social rights activist Melinda Washington, Josh enjoyed a luxurious childhood thanks to his father's wealth and as an adult, he still recalls their yearly summer retreats to Blackwood Pines and the baseball games he played with his family on the lawn of their mountain lodge, side by side with his sisters, mum and dad.

However, his happiness didn't last, his parents became more and more preoccupied in their work, which left Josh feeling neglected. As a result, Josh formed a very close bond with his sisters, Hannah and Beth, relying on them for the emotional support his parents could not provide.

-Chris "You know how Josh and I meet? OK, third grade, Josh sat in the back of the room, I sat in the front. We didn't even know each other existed. But the kid sitting next to Josh started strap snapping the training bra on the girl in front of him, so the teacher made him move to the front - where I was sitting!"

-Sam"Okay so?"

-Chris "So I got moved to the back!"

-Chris "And next to Josh, that's how me meet.

And became friends. To this day!"

Sam-"A match made in heaven."

In third grade Josh meet and befriended classmate Christopher Hartley, eventually drawing him, and his sisters into a larger circle of friends consisting of Samantha, Mike, Jessica, Emily, Ashley, Matthew and Zach.

He and Chris would basically grow up together, spending many weekends and days together. Dialogue between the two suggest they went through a sort of pyromanic phase sometime growing up as they mentioned deliberately setting fire on things or melting dolls using a makeshift flamethrower.

After an "incident" at school, Josh was referred to a psychiatrist in 2006 and was wrongly diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. Over the course of the next few years, he was referred to a number of other medical professionals and prescribed a number of antidepressant drugs; often, the effects of the drugs tapered or simply failed to help Josh at all, forcing his doctors to change prescriptions. By 2013, he was self-medicating with progressively larger doses of Amitriptyline in a desperate attempt to improve his mental health.

During the fateful winter getaway at Blackwood Pines, Josh spent most of the evening partying and getting drunk with Chris, his best friend, and as a result he was not included, nor aware of the prank his friends played on Hannah, and was left passed out on the kitchen counter while his twin sisters left the lodge, never to be seen again.

Josh took the disappearance of his sisters very badly.

Medical records from around this time suggest he came dangerously close to committing suicide, and his ongoing state of delirium quickly resulted in him being committed to Oceanview Hospital for observation while his current doctor, Alan Hill, considered possible treatments. Though Josh was discharged two weeks later with a new prescription of Phenelzine, he had changed for the worst: though outwardly good-humored and sociable as ever, he had become obsessed with the idea of solving every single one of his problems simultaneously. This is where he came up with the one thing that he knew would solve his problems. The prank.

Drawing upon his family's wealth and his father's contacts among practical effects artists, he spent most of the year planning, designing and commissioning the props necessary for his grand prank.

Eventually, he returned to Blackwood Pines and rigged the Washington lodge with all the props necessary for the ultimate practical joke - including video cameras to ensure that the events would be recorded and uploaded to the Internet.

He then invited his friends back to the mountain for another winter getaway.

Josh had planned for anything, arranging everything from animatronic ghosts to fake bodies, even creating evidence of a slasher villain. He himself played the part of this particular character who came to be known only as 'THE PSYCHO'. However he had no desire to actually kill them, and carefully designed his pranks to ensure that nobody would actually be hurt by them.

After having had his 'fun', he reveals himself as the mastermind behind it all, and confronted by his friends, Josh reveals the details of his prank, gloating how well he fooled them and boasting of how the uploaded footage will make them Internet sensations. Mike, enraged and believing that Josh is responsible for Jessica's death, knocks him unconscious; after tying his hands, Mike and Chris drag him to the shack, intending to keep him there until they can call the police, all the while ignoring Josh's protestations of innocence. As the confrontation goes on, Josh's behavior begins to degenerate: already high-strung and prone to grandiose bragging, he slowly declines further into madness, first into increasingly crazed denials, then vicious insults aimed at his captors, before finally dissolving into deranged, barely-coherent mumbling. Chris departs, saddened, leaving Mike on guard.

          "Hello children..."

During this time, Emily is fleeing from the Wendigo, making it back to the lodge, her screams get carried as far as the shack, prompting Mike to investigate - leaving Josh behind in the process. Soon after, the Stranger arrives to explain the true nature of the threat on the mountain, introducing the group to the concept of the Wendigo. Too late, Mike realizes that Josh has been left alone in the Wendigo's hunting ground, prompting Chris - accompanied by the Stranger - to attempt a rescue: however, on reaching the shack, they find it deserted and covered in blood; presuming Josh dead, the two of them leave - only to be ambushed by the Wendigo. The Stranger is instantly decapitated, and Chris is forced to retreat to the lodge. After this, the Wendigo drags an unconscious Josh into the forest. Refusing to wait until dawn to escape and knowing that the cable car won't work without Josh's keys, Mike resolves to find him. Meanwhile, Josh is dragged into the abandoned mines and deposited in the Wendigo's lair.

There, abandoned by his hallucination of Dr Hill, Josh suffers a complete mental breakdown: taunted on all sides by the voices of his psychiatrist, his sisters, his friends, and even himself, he swings wildly between fear, grief and utter despair as his mental health rapidly deteriorates. His hallucinations take a dark turn, confronting him with the animated corpses of his sisters, Hannah encouraging him to join them, Beth blaming him for their deaths.

While hallucinating giant pig's heads, showers of intestines, the skinned bodies of his sisters and giant Wendigos, Josh is finally located by Sam and Mike - the latter of whom is able to bring Josh back to reality by slapping him across the face. Upon realizing that his friends are with him, he willingly hands over the cable car keys. Sam then proceeds to tell Josh about Hannah, and that she had been down in the mines for a long time, something that later on saves Josh's life.

And though Sam is able to climb out of the cavern on her own, Mike clearly recognizes that Josh won't be able to climb in his current condition, and decides to help him find another way out. However while wading through an underground lake, they are ambushed by Wendigo Hannah and Mike is dragged under the water and flung aside while the creature attacks Josh, who noticed the butterfly tattoo on the Wendigo's shoulder, and realized that the creature is actually his sister, Hannah.

He cries out her name and Hannah, apparently recognized her brother and choose to spare his life, but she nonetheless drags her screaming brother Josh back to her lair where he remains until the next day.

"Is there anyone out there? ANYONE?! Help me. I-I'm all alone..."

Josh is a human, and as such possesses no superhuman powers beside the average strength of a man in his twenties who work outs occasionally.

He does have an incredibly keen intellect, and is able to concoct complicated plots, learn quickly, and solve problems in a heartbeat. He also has a wide knowledge of special and make up effects, and knows how to work electronics. He is shown to be able to create movie quality props and complicated devices like saw traps, holographic imagery and has even realistically pulled off faking his own death.

He also has basic medical knowledge and knows how to properly and safely administer sedatives as well as various other medical practices.

Josh's father owned multiple firearms so growing up Josh has trained himself to be an expert marksman, rarely missing his target.

Appearance wise, Josh has short chocolate-brown hair, much like his sisters Hannah and Beth.

He has a caramel complexion and emerald green eyes, and is often thought of as very attractive.

Josh's interactions with others tend to be humorous, and generally very positive in nature. He cares deeply for his friends and acts as a brotherly figure to Chris, and loves taking the helm, organizing cool events and making sure that everybody has an awesome time, and that no one feels excluded. His dreams of following in his father's footsteps in becoming a film producer make him very knowledgeable about special effects and movie props and as such, he constantly uses phrases and words from movies, indicating that he is a big lover of movies in general. He is a also a charitable person, and isn't stingy about sharing

Josh definitely has a bit of a party-animal streak (honed in his freshman year of college), but his warm and friendly personality will win everybody around in the end. Sadly, however, there are more to be added. Despite being an extremely extroverted individual, radiating with positivity and happiness, Joshua has another, darker side.

He was diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder when he was 11 years old and has been taking anti-depressants ever since.

His actual problem however wasn't depression, but Schizophrenia, a brain disorder. Schizophrenia is characterized by a disassociation from reality. Its symptoms are visual and auditory hallucinations, delusions, social withdrawal/paranoia, and disorganized speech.

Josh is extremely unstable at times, and even attempted suicide after the death of his sisters.

//This is where I stray from the original ending of 'Until Dawn', as I felt distressed that there were but two choices for my boy Josh. Either his head is caved in by his wendigo sister, or he's taken away into the mines, where he'll be left alone with nothing but his hunger, eventually resort to cannibalism, and turn into a wendigo himself.

So I felt that Josh deserved a second chance at life.  Because at the end of the day, he is a victim too.

GameTheory explains it best in this video. Please, do watch.

In my mind Josh survives, and THIS is what really happened.

Surviving the horror at Blackwood Mountain, a broken and lamenting Josh returns to 'Oceanview Hospital' after having broken down during police interrogation regarding the 'killer on Blackwood Pines' and during questioning he confesses to everything, telling them that he was in fact 'the killer', and that it had all been an elaborate prank, and that he was sorry for having played said 'prank'. No charges were brought against him, but he was given a court order to undergo psychiatric treatment as well as monthly psychiatric evaluations.

Despite bleeding himself dry of apologies and pointing out his terribly remorse, and despite the fact that both Sam, Chris and Mike, as well as Jessica, all came to visit him at the hospital, he still feels as though his friends will never trust him again, or that he is worthy of their trust even.

Eventually, Joshua was released and prescribed a new set of medicines designed to help his actual problem, schizophrenia.

Plagued with guilt and still haunted by the past he remains more than often locked away inside of his room.

"I-I didn't want ANY of this to happen, I swear! It's not w-what I wanted...

You were not supposed to leave. Not supposed to leave me...leave me all alone. I'm...I'm lonely. So alone.

Please...FORGIVE ME, I'm so, SO sorry!

I'm sorry for what I did, I-I can't tell you how sorry I am and, and I wish I could undo all of this craziness...-

-...No. P-please don't go again. Please don't leave me...PLEASE!?"

"Five, girl! Yeah!"

  • My character is a frail little human, with little to no real combat experience so I'd ask that you do not permanently maim him.  Beyond that, feel free to beat him to a bloody pulp. He can take it.
  • Please use grammar when engaging in a roleplay with me, as it is very dear to my heart.
  • 21+ Content. There will be gore, drugs, and....thangs.

  • Sam had flinched and Ashely let out a yelp. “What a cunt-” Chris said, crouching down, looking at the blossoming bruise on Josh’s face. “Let’s get you a first aid kit, bro.” Ashely was merely shaking her head. “What the fuck is her deal? I don’t get how she could be so mean.”

And Sam, who had torn her gaze away from Josh, was looking at the doorway where Emily had left. Her stomach tied in knots as she could practically see Hannah’s innocent face. Every part of her wanted to do something, but she didn’t know what. What little alcohol mixed with adrenaline had quite an affect on her.

“Let’s get back at her.” She spouted. “The only reason she acts like that is because Mike is her boyfriend, and thus she thinks nothing can get her, even karma.” “So you want to humiliate her or something?” Ashely rose an eyebrow.

“No! God no, nothing mean or cruel.” Sam mumbled. “But a harmless joke, a prank. Nothing that will hurt her feelings, but something that will tell her to back off Hannah a little.” In the end, this was for Hannah.

  • She watches him with careful and wary hazel eyes. For a heartbeat, she forgets everything horrible that had happened as relief slipped into her. He was going to be fine, even if fine wasn’t right now, and it was showing, even if it was in the smallest movement. He would be alright, it would just take time and patience. But as he said ‘I’m sorry’ that hopeful second had passed. Samantha couldn’t think of something to say, not right away. Emotion rose into her throat, almost suffocating, and she realized that she was holding back tears.

“I-I…” She didn’t know if she could trust if that apology was genuine, and she wasn’t sure she forgave him. But she wanted to. Sam took a deep breath, and quickly wiped at her eyes with the back of her hands. “Mascara in my eyes.” She mumbled softly. There was no way in hell she would cry here and now. She let in another shaky breath, and then smiled. “I know.”

Time for the honesty. “And after everything that happened, I want to be there for you Josh. You’re my friend. And you don’t deserve to be alone because of what happened.” It wasn’t anyone else’s fault that he was alone, after all, everyone deserved a break and would come around when they needed to. Sammy thought of Josh’s father next. She thought of the ghost that had become his mother. He didn’t have anyone right now, not anyone with a sound head to help him. She still had a lot to work for herself, but she needed to be there for Josh.

“So whatever happens, just know that I’m going to be here you. It might be a little tough, but we’re pretty strong, so we got this.” He wouldn’t be alone.

  • Exaggeration for one man was... well, possible gospel for another. Getting Nikolas into trouble on a few occasions where the lies hadn't moved in his favor. Regardless there seemingly was no changing a certain trusting tone the young man carried with him. Hardly stopping to think of the feasibility that the other hadn't been left alone in so long, the message came across strong enough if not going further. He couldn't quite relate in his own little world, on the other hand. Growing up in a household where what family he had was something to hold onto. He would have been doomed without it. Eventually... in present day he'd come to land in a place where he'd go to lengths just to not be left alone.

He himself hardly found himself a liar. An open book by nature, he would share just as much as was asked of. The demons on the street. Few secrets were held other than the twisting of words in his favor where panic wasn't needed. Susceptible to just the opposite personality... well, there were times where hindsight was 20/20. Needless to day such a thing.  It stopped him little from falling back into the same pitfalls.

Josh was a stranger... yet not so much of a stranger that he was left on the streets. Not so much of a stranger, that he was left in wet clothes for the morning, either. If he was a stranger, then he was a descent one in the eyes of Nik. It took so little to gain is trust that me perhaps already had it. After all the 21 year old had enough against him, with demons on his back at the odd hours of the night.

As for now... it was daylight outside. Seen as visible once they had exited the elevator, the interior he had seen now far more cheerfully lit with sunlight outside as well as the fluorescent lighting overhead. It had felt like a foreign place then, it still did now. Nikolas felt oddly calm as he passed through the corridor, hands in his pockets calmly as they did so, less attention paid to the factor of who was 'on duty' for the building and who wasn't. The fact that Josh was calm in the meanwhile was keeping his own thoughts at bay. Terrible ones, of how the night-to-early-morning had come and pass. Thoughts of what he had caused in the Washington residence. The woman slumped in a broken manner on the table, shattered plates, but... Josh was calm. No questions of demons: Why they were present, not even what he was. Even granted forgiveness for the ordeal, from the clearly marked bruise on the man's head from their run-in, to the outburst in his room. A strange peace found by it that he didn't himself understand.

Still, Nikolas followed alongside as they exited the building. Eagerly, in fact, as if the doorway worked as a boundary to the events that happened on the inside.  Nikolas glanced down at his sneakers and then back to the other. "I'll have you know I don't give out easy tens." A wayward glance went to Josh when he spoke, and a grin spread across his face. "And..." he chuckled, "...I sure as hell could've used a drink last night. But, I didn't have to sleep on the floor. And I don't think booze would've helped our cases anyways." What was he saying..? As if the night came to just that- the thought caused another short laugh to escape his chest. "I'll give it a nine, how about that?"

Nikolas took a glance around the outside of the building, daylight filling in what the shadows hadn't described in hours prior. "Alright, my man... how far to the nearest Subway?"

  •             Here it starts, she thought, well this part of it, at least, just until they could pass them all, to get inside.  Even after then, it would be like anyone, and everyone who worked here, would be bombarded with some questions of some sort upon exit, there was no escaping it, especially when it was all new, and they wanted to have, or make their story.  She knew they would do anything to get their story, but information, words of any kind, even the smallest of them, it would not come from her, and in her own way, she ignoring the questions, the flashes, and the microphones shoved into her face, it meaning 'No Comment, hoping they'd get the hint.

No comment, because it was official police business, and the case at hand, it would remain under-wraps as best as it could, until it was found out what truly happened.  The minimal information the reporters have, or thought they did have, is the minimal they would remain with.  The media had their theories on who it could be, were probably already forming, had even half formed a story in their head, just now here to grab the other half to make it complete, because they were cruel, cold, and vicious like that.  But, of course, they were wrong with their theories, Detective Chandler one hundred per cent certain on that.  Well, unless someone knew something they didn't, as in the police didn't know, but she wouldn't think it likely at all.  If so however, she would hope they'd come forward, and speak to her, but it couldn't be, she sure of it, reassuring herself once more.  Catherine, if, or when she chose to work alone on this case, on the side a little to visit that scene back at the mountains, she would have theories as well, her own kind, but she'd know what to look out for, where to look, if that visit happened again, that was - So, it was just a matter of when, even if it her revisit would be permitted.  Her thoughts, theories they were going above, and beyond a little, or even a lot as to what most people would think, but those thoughts of hers however, they were just that, hers, and no one would be hearing them, not right now, not ever.

Or well, unless it was to two other certain individuals only; The male before her, who had been caught up in this, perhaps so, but other than that, it would be someone she trusted one hundred per cent - First thing was first though, it was to find out what actually happened, but for her mind to dwell on here, and now, just outside, the station, she didn't let it any longer, and while continuing to avoid the bombardment of questions, of flashing lights, and other things, the guiding of them both throughout this had almost brought them to the front door, where it cleared up a little, only because they thought Joshua would give them some words, some information. 'FUCK. YOU. ALL.' That he sure did, and just like that, enough was enough, and she didn't care much for herself going through this, but for him, it was time to get him indoors.

"Come on, watch your step.  And, let's head inside now.."

The door of that station would just as she had said those words, and from other colleagues of Catherine for Joshua and the detective.  Before any other further questions, or photos were fired, or snapped their way, hopefully, she ushered them both inside as quickly as she could, then the door closing behind them, right into the faces of the reporters, and other media personnel.  Now, it was a matter of here leading him somewhere, to an interrogation room, or some other room, or if someone would take over.  For the moment however, at least they were inside, and Joshua was away from all that happening outside, at least.

  • Gold. Lmfao
  • Ne might not of thought it but Alice could analyze shit rather quickly, she was an easy person to anger and that was one of the quickest ways in order to do it. She he meant no harm in it at all, but that would not stop her from thinking any differently of it. She wasn't some pure child who thought all of that was bad and would think him differently for thinking it at all. He was a man after all, but not all men thought like that either.

Well, with that out of the picture Alice she cared little about it any longer and she took on a more playful approach to what could be her actually initiating ripping the heads off patrons in here, but she did none of that. Not yet.

"Ah, I don' need any gun to be doin' any of that. They may try to erase me mind but they will never ferget me kickin' they arses." A wicked smile played on her ace and she looked far too smug of herself about it. She had a way of seeming that way and being completely ruthless and heartless underneath it all. It only stretched on further the more that the woman decided to take her time with the ice cream. Americans honestly did piss her off sometimes.

As for good measures though she did turn back to look at the spot where the men had previously stood, naturally they were gone, but they were not out of mind.

Alice turned back to the woman who was still--for fucking sakes.

"CHOOSE A BLOODY ICE CREAM ALREADY!" Alice screamed at the mother, children or not, she didn't seem to care to. Probably scared half the people with it too. "Ya bloody Americans takin' yer sweet damn time! If ya need to get her gob stuffed mare with it just com'back t'marrow an' get some mare!" She stared at the woman, daring her to try and make a come back. "Yer boar ass n' yer damn piggies cannae get. Fuckin' Hell."

Hopfully that snapped her out of it, because if she went on any longer with going along with it Alice would not be scared to throw fists.

  • Reassurance. Just what he needed, and Josh's words seemed promising in giving it. How the other was managing to keep a cool head about all of it..? Well it wasn't his information to know exactly. "Wait... two years..?" Nik interrupted when the surprise of the number couldn't be kept in. As a kid that had spent his nights sneaking out when he was younger, doing much the same in his twenties now, he couldn't fathom it. "Hell. And of all the things you could've done... you picked to run into little-old-me." A half grin flashed across his face for a moment or so but it wouldn't stay for too long. He'd put himself on thin ice that morning... alright- afternoon, already. Or so he thought.

The door was cracked open, and Nik took a breath. Genuinely fearful for what was on the other end, he tried to be ready for just about anything. There was a part of him that merely hoped his mother had left. Maybe she was on her way to work, calm and collected by the time she would get there.

Boy were those optimistic thoughts. Even for him.

When the door opened wide enough, When Nikolas stopped not too far behind Josh, he could have physically flinched at the scene. Something similar to an ache was felt in his chest the longer his eyes settled upon the woman... or what was the mess of a woman, anyways. Broken china, shattered to pieces, littered the ground. He looked from her, forward to Josh. A bit wide eyed, and in his mind, he wasn't sure which one to worry about first- the other male or his mother. In his own scenario, his own individualized setting, Nik's own little personal world, there was no way he wouldn't have been a wreck. But this was Josh's and he knew nothing about it.

For now, he had to trust Josh in it. Slipping past on the tile floors just as silently as he had prior. He wanted to say something, he wanted to speak. But he knew as well as any that there wasn’t a chance of getting words past what was raw emotion. Still. Their silence to the situation lingered even as they got to the front door. He watched over his shoulder hesitantly as the door was opened as quietly as it could be, and out into the open air they went.

The sigh of relief was shared the moment the door closed. He took a stride or two away from it as if it made all the difference, glancing back once more and then to Josh. He left is thoughts on the event behind that door as best he could.

Against strange odds, the comment caused a smile to spread across his face. He had his response ready on how demons and mothers were entirely different but- when the last bit Josh had added was spoken, a laugh escaped. “Hey, hey… your words not mine, got it?” He said with a snicker, and down the hallway they went. When they reached the elevator he hit the down button and waited.

  • “H-Hi Sammy….”

It was up until he had spoken that she thought coming to see him was probably a mistake. A soft, almost sad smile reached her face. "Hey Josh." Sam found her voice. She pulled up a chair sat down in the chair, by the bed. "I..." Those blue eyes are looking at him, slightly pained, slightly worried. She had so many things to say to him but didn't know the right words.

Are you alright? Why did you hurt me? The others? Did you hate me? I missed you. I'm a bit scared of you. I thought you were gone. You're here. You're alright, right? Please be OK. The thoughts ran through her mind, of everything she wanted to tell him.

But right now she couldn't do that, not to him. Josh looked tired too, and a little shocked. Sam couldn't overwhelm him. So she offered a smile, slightly... awkward, but then again, after everything that happened, it was bound to be. "I'm glad you're.... you're alive. I was scared." She had been scared that the Blackwood Mountain 'curse' had taken him too, just like it did with Hannah and Beth.  "And I- I talked to some of the others. Man. It's been a long year. And I uh-"

"I was worried about you. And was wondering if, if..." she tried to find her words again, but it was getting hard. "You're okay? Right?" She was petrified to ask, not only because he might say no, but what if he wasn't alright? What if he hurt her? He didn't seem like he would, Sam knows he's a good guy, but he had done some pretty bad things. And she remembered-

'Revenge is the best medicine.' Did he want revenge against her? Is that why he chased her around? Sam tried not to think about that. And what about his sister, Hannah? Did he believe her, but end up thinking that it was part of his hallucinations, that things just went wrong, and Hannah hadn't been a wendigo? Would he ever realize that Hannah had eaten Beth? Or had he already realized that? It all felt like a blur.

She took a trembling breath in, brushing those thoughts away in a second. "Your mom, I saw her. She let me up here. I could bring her something to eat sometime?" Sam offered. "And I could bring you something too. Or whatever else you would need." She peered around the room again.

  • Sam couldn't take it anymore. Hannah was so... good. And of course, Emily was going to try to ruin that. "She's a lot better than you."

"Did the girl who only makes friends with animals want to say something too?" Em's eyes narrowed at Sam.

"Now that you mention it, yeah. Not only are you a mean bitch, you're also a coward. Hannah; she's sweet and unlike you- She's a good person." Sam started. Jessica got up and moved to stand by Emily, glaring at Sam.

"And god Em, you're saying all this absolute crap, not even to her face, and when you say it, you have to hide behind your boyfriend! Do you realize how pathetic you look?" Sam pointed out, a clear WTF look on her face. Emily went to cut her off but Sam shook her head. "I'm not done, Emily. Here's a poem, inspired by you, about you!" Then in a clear mocking voice; mimicked Emily.

    "Roses are red,

    Violets are blue,

    Em's a snake,

    and it really shows too."

"Are you done throwing a tantrum?" Emily practically hissed out. "Em, how about we just go?" Jessica interrupted her, gently grabbing her arm. "Yeah, let's leave. Darling~" Emily was grabbing on Mike, trying to tug him away. But before she could, she looked Josh straight in the face, that nasty glare back.

"By the way, this party sucked. The only scary thing about it was how desperate your sister is for someone else's boyfriend, and how cozy Sam wants to be with the Washington family. Or maybe it's just her Hannah's brother she wants to be cozy with and that's why she stands up for the hoe." Emily spouted out.

  • She woke up, got dressed, and got into the car. Each of those things, so simple, yet, for Samantha Giddings, just another step to face someone who she wasn't sure if she could see. "Breathe in, Sam." She mumbled, pulling into the parking lot of the hospital, and adjusting her blue scarf in the mirror. Slipping on the blue flannel over a white tea, she looked outside. It wasn't snowing, but it was cold. Sammy let her breath twist in front of her like a frosty ballet as she made her way across the parking lot. Besides herself, the only thing she brought was a simple card, tucked into her jacket.

"I'm here to see Josh Washington?" She said to the visitor desk. "Family?" The nurse replied, not even looking up at her. But before she could speak, a voice familiar to Sam did. "Yes." The nurse and Sam both had to look up to realize who had spoken on behalf of Sam. Sam felt a chill run down her as she looked at Josh's mother, who she hadn't seen since the funeral for Hannah and Beth. "I'll take her there." Misses Washington said, and without another word, Sam followed her. It was like following a ghost.

"Do you want to come in with-" Sam started, but Misses Washington had stopped her, with a simple shake of her head, and gestured to a bench in the hallway. "I'll be here." And Sam nodded, wondering how she had become so... removed from the Washington family. Her heart hammered against her chest as her hand wrapped around the handle of the door. Everything at her screamed to run away.

Was she crazy? What could she possibly hope to gain from this? Sam knew the answers to these questions. She didn't want anything but her friend back. She mustered up what courage she had, and pushed open the door. "Josh?"

Slowly, she moved into the room, shutting the door behind her. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but then closed it, looking around silently. "I- I... I came here... I got you something." And then she was taking out the card.
