⠀⠀⠀Kael is a merman, so to speak. His scales are an iridescent blue that’s almost as pale as his skin. If he is above water, his tail can turn into a pair of human legs. Kael’s lower half has to be completely under water in order for his legs to fuse back into a tail. ⠀⠀⠀Since Kael travels long distances, he’s stayed in shape because of all the swimming. He is muscular, especially around his abdomen, since that is mainly the part that moves around the most when he is swimming. His arms are slightly muscular, he doesn’t use them when swimming, so they’re the least affected from his daily swimming. ⠀⠀⠀Kael is apparently handsome according to some human girls he’s interacted with. He has almond shaped eyes, thin eyebrows, an average nose, and a sharp-ish jawline. He doesn’t do anything to maintain his pretty face, there really isn’t an idea of beauty care under the sea. He also has black hair that fluffs around his left side and end just below his head.
Character Personality
⠀⠀⠀ Kael tends to be a bit humorous with his interactions. Ever since he found his sense of humor, he wanted to keep atmospheres involving him to be light. He’s capable of making fun of himself and others. He can be slightly playful, since he has a lot of energy. Since he doesn’t really take everything seriously, it’s difficult to take him seriously. ⠀⠀⠀ Despite his lack of a social life, Kael is very confident. He doesn’t get shy nor embarrassed, so he does everything with no anxieties. Once he understands how something works, he’ll straight up do it, without fear of making mistakes. Even when he does make a mistake, he doesn’t start thinking negatively about himself. He just sees it as something to avoid when he needs to do it again. ⠀⠀⠀ It is a mistake to underestimate Kael’s intellect due to his appearance and lack of knowledge for human concepts. He can learn things very quickly, learning how to communicate verbally with humans after months of observation. Sure, he doesn’t know how to read or write, but he is still very observant and inquisitive. He’s not afraid to ask questions when he doesn’t understand something and always makes an effort to understand the world around him. ⠀⠀⠀ Kael is a very approachable person. His lack of seriousness makes him less intimidating despite his outgoing aura. Kael is nice to everyone he meets, however, that doesn’t necessarily mean he cares about the people he’s nice to. It’s rather easy to make Kael like someone, you just have to stay consistent and redeeming. There are times where Kael acts chivalrous, but some women tend to mistake that as flirting. He doesn’t understand the human concept of flirting, so he tends to get confused when girls get fangirly over him. ⠀⠀⠀ Kael rarely feels fear. Of course he only reserves those emotions when it’s pretty obvious he’s going to die. However, if he isn’t dying, he’s never afraid of anything. He’s willing to go through dangerous things, and he’s not afraid of people hating him for whatever reason. He always says what’s on his mind and could care less about the repercussions of his actions. ⠀⠀⠀ Kael tends to think for himself only. Since the only person he truly knows and cares for is himself, he tends to act selfishly. He’s far from egotistical, he doesn’t think highly of himself. He is capable of caring for others, since he cares a whole lot about animals. He can care about another person, once he gets to know them. ⠀⠀⠀ Because Kael is unaware of a lot of things, he has a tendency to offend others unintentionally. He doesn’t really know what is and is not appropriate to say, most of the time. He understands angry emotions, but sometimes, he doesn’t know the cause as to why some people get angry. He also doesn’t understand the idea of anxiety. He doesn’t get why people can get nervous under certain social situations. For example, if he sees someone who he thinks is a good singer, and they get an opportunity to sing in front of a crowd, he would encourage that person, despite refusing due to stage fright. ⠀⠀⠀ Since Kael can only care about himself, he really doesn’t care about a lot of things. He doesn’t care about people’s feelings. Unless he ends up liking someone else, he really would care less if he made someone upset. He also doesn’t care about making a mess, how he appears, and doing something ‘wrong’. ⠀⠀⠀ Kael doesn’t really understands social statuses and modesty. He doesn’t really get why some people are more important than others and just treats everyone equally. He also doesn’t get why being naked is a big deal. He understands that humans wear clothes, so that’s why he wears them, to blend in more with them. However, he doesn’t really mind being ‘naked’, since he technically is naked every time he’s underwater.
Character Likes
⠀⠀⠀ Kael finds observing the world around him very fun. He likes learning new things and putting them to practice. He’d always ask questions whenever he doesn’t understand something. ⠀⠀⠀ Kael spent most of his life underwater, so sea creatures were the only things he can talk to. He thinks fishes are fun, with all the shapes, sizes, and colors they come in. He really likes dolphins since they’re very playful and social creatures. He likes to hang out with octopuses, sea lions, seals, turtles, and sharks. When he was practicing how to talk, he would usually talk to various sea creatures, to get the hang of talking. Since he’s quite fond of sea animals, he’s kind of a vegetarian. He knows he could eat fish and crabs, but refuses to because ‘they’re his only friends’. He is still willing to eat some meat, like clams. ⠀⠀⠀ Kael loves interacting with others, whether they be from humans or sea creatures. He spends a lot of time with dolphins, since he finds them to be the most interactive. He likes being around humans. He would love to talk to one day, but he’s aware that human language is complicated and he needs to do extensive observation in order to have a proper conversation. He can’t wait for the day he finally talks to one though. ⠀⠀⠀ Kael really likes things that catches his eye. Things like colorful stuff, shiny stuff, he’s kind of like Tomatoa. Expect he doesn’t have a collection, rather he would admire it from the place he found it and leave it alone.
Character Dislikes
⠀⠀⠀ Kael hates being bored. He can actually get bored pretty easily now that he’s learned a lot of things about the human world. He does get rather impatient at times, when he has to wait for something, especially when it’s something fun to do. ⠀⠀⠀ Kael has been independent for all his life. It was until he discovered life on land that he came to the sudden realization of how lonely he is. Ever since he found out about it, he’s yearned for a life on land, so he can no longer live his life in isolation ⠀⠀⠀ Kael is already trying his best to understand humans, so when he sees an idea he just can’t understand at all, he can get frustrated. This list includes, but not limited to; humans that contradict themselves, laziness, humans that care too much for little things, fandom culture, politics, the desire to be popular, getting angry over an opposing opinion, manipulation, getting offended over everything, and discrimination. ⠀⠀⠀ Kael doesn’t get people who are nothing but just spite. He doesn’t really like being angry himself either, as just being frustrated makes him feel tired. Kael can never really understand the point of being angry. He thinks it doesn’t seem to solve anything and oftentimes it just makes the situation worse.
Character History/Story
⠀⠀⠀Kael hatched from his egg alone in the sea bed. For 23 years he managed to live on his own by eating whatever he can find and traveling all over the ocean. His solitary life consisted of eating random things like kelp, dead coral, barnacles, and calms. While he is aware that he could eat fish and other creatures, he never had the heart to do it because fish and sea creatures were the things he considered friends. ⠀⠀⠀He would often play with some fish and various other sea creatures, but his favorite animal to interact with were dolphins. They were the most interactive due to their intelligence and he liked spending his time with them the most. He also likes sharks, whales, snails, sting rays, and sea lions. He has kept some octopus and sea turtles as pets so he refuses to eat any sea creature. ⠀⠀⠀There are some exceptions though. While he likes most crustaceans, he does find some crabs to be rather mean. If they annoy him enough, he does end up eating them out of spite. He also understands that animals need to eat each other for survival. When he was a child, he didn't like seeing his friends get eaten, but as he got older he understood that it was just how life works. ⠀⠀⠀At one point, Kael decided to observe the surface world. He discovered humans and civilization. He was fascinated by their social culture and was quickly enamored by their world. Since he knew that humans can only communicate through speech he spent years studying their language just purely through observation. He would practice speaking with some sea creatures, but he knew that language was a complex and had to take his time to actually learn it. ⠀⠀⠀So he decided to go to the surface.
Character Inventory
⠀⠀⠀Kael only has two belongings which are discarded clothing. He only has one shirt which is a white dress shirt that's a bit too big for him and black trousers. That is it. That's all he wears when he goes to the surface.
Character Abilites
⠀⠀⠀Kael's tail can turn into legs when he is completely above surface. They do fuse back into a tail when he is completely under water. The tail seems to have spatial awareness. For example; if Kael is in a bathtub that's too small, his legs won't fuse into a tail if there is not enough room for his whole tail. Even if his lower half is under the water. ⠀⠀⠀Another unique ability that Kael has is that his digestive system seems to be more durable that a humans. He can eat dead coral and suffer no consequences, although, it is actually not healthy with it having very little nutritional value for him. He can eat things raw like seaweed and kelp. He also could eat raw meat, and although he hasn't tried it, he can swallow fish bones with no problem.
