Summary:

Tempest is a young Arctic Oceanic Drake from a dying breed that’s been poached into near extinction for their ability to manipulate water. Since being liberated from the New Zealand royal navy’s control, he’s been roaming the seas alone for several years in hopes of seeking out other dragonkin.

Personality:

For the most part, he's a jovial type of being, lazy, and an idiot at times, rarely takes anything seriously.

Abilities:

- Aquamancy -

3744690023?profile=RESIZE_710x

Tempest possesses an advanced form of water manipulation, being able to create tsunamis, summon hurricanes at will, conjure up storms, whirlpools, or shoot beams of pressurized water at either an enemy or prey. His skills even allow him to influence the water molecules in a person’s blood to a degree. For fast travel across the seas, he can manipulate the surrounding water to propel himself at unimaginable speeds below or above the surface.

- Ice Magic -

3744691322?profile=RESIZE_710x

Another unique trait his kind carries. This includes being able to cool his surroundings, freeze a selection of water, create hardened ice spikes that can be turned into projectiles, and cause a devastating hailstorm by freezing a small portion of the heavens. A common defense move used by him is creating thick ice walls.

Weather Manipulation - Like the rest of his kin, he can conjure up devastating storms and hurricanes. This allows him to flood entire towns and cities if given enough time. While weather control can be one of his most powerful abilities, it often burns out most of his magic depending on the scale it’s being done on.

Lightning Redirection - Exactly what it sounds like. Knowing basic Atomkinesis has enabled him to draw electrons from the atmosphere until they can be charged enough to create a brief bolt and be projected where he wishes. If not done correctly, Tempest can risk frying himself in the process or anyone around him. This rare attack move doesn’t change the fact he’s vulnerable to electricity naturally. This can only be used if a severe thunderstorm is present.

Weapons:

Poseidon’s Trident - A legendary item given to him by the God of the seas himself. This allows Tempest to use more special forms of water manipulation and can be used as a melee weapon while in human form. In addition, the Trident can break any Ocean bound curse or be used to alter the sea level.

Appearance:

Tempest is roughly ninety-one feet in length from head to tail. Reflective azure scales cover most of his hulking form, with a golden underbelly and varying turquoise flippers. Three horns can be found bent back across his head almost like a trident, along with emerald serpentine irises, and webbed ears. While he lacks a pair of wings, two large fins remain on his back to keep him level in water. Gold spinal fins run down along his armored back and stop near the end of the tail.

Long ago sea drake populations used to range in the hundreds per pod, arguably one of the ultimate apex predators with the exception of Leviathan. There were many different variations of them, from their unholy deep-sea cousins to freshwater species, tropic breeds, and many others throughout the globe. While their winged counterparts inland were being wiped out, their numbers in the wild remained unchanged for some time.

With the industrial age came the ultimate decline. As mankind's technology became more advanced, so did their weapons, and that enabled them to finally combat the aquatic dragons effectively despite their docile temperament. But this was not the root cause for their elimination: Pollution of the seas claimed more of their lives than humanity's crusade over could. As a direct result, most became biologically vulnerable and died of illness. All that contamination wiped out many of their pods. Tempest is one of the few survivors of this.

Prior to being forcibly separated from his mother, the juvenile of a drake was captured and had undergone training to serve the Navy for a new program they created. Though defiant at first, they managed to tame him when a woman named Diadena Hernandez was assigned to him as his handler. She succeeded in getting him to corporate and went on a number of missions with her Draconic partner. The two became emotionally attached after a period of time.

Once the news had spread of a decision to dissect him came about, Diadena removed his tracker and turned him loose. From there, he fled from the Naval base before migrating hundreds of miles away.

It was only later until the young Dovah heard a song coming from the shoreline. Something about that melody had drawn him towards it in ways that could not be described, other than an uncontrollable urge to confront it and be with whoever was singing it. The one responsible was what appeared to be a young brunette woman, who was too shocked to flee at the sight of him. In his seemingly delusional state, Tempest showered her with affection in the form of licks, nuzzles, and even attempting to hold her. As if knowing he'd be in danger just for staying out there in the open, she chose to travel and run off with him.

Whether his love for her became willing or was a long-term side effect of her sings, the two became an inseparable pair who got in and out of trouble together.

He was a Sea Dragon, she was a Siren, and neither one had a place to call home.

Together they became an unlikely duo, like two fugitives who had no one but each other to rely on.

As they carried on together, the two became increasingly frustrated with the size difference between them, it almost became a sort of barrier. To compensate for this, he drained the Siren's blood and replaced it with his own, which held some magical properties that could convert another into one of his kind. As a result, Clarion instead became a sea serpent. It was through him that she learned how to hunt prey with her new lifestyle. Them migrating together became a daily routine.

. . .

Sometime prior to meeting a man who forged an adopted family of monsters, something terrible happened that forced their group to disband. In the midst of all that chaos, Tempest and his mate Clarion were unable to locate each other quickly enough and fled separately. Just like last time, he was required to travel alone for a second time.

Hopefully for the last.

As for his whereabouts, Tempest is currently on an endless migration, whether it be in search of Clarion, the family, or to seek something else. With no one left to turn to, he conceals himself from any boats or ships that would draw attention to himself. He'll frequently roam in shallow waters, and is known to occasionally take on human form to explore any populated coasts thanks to a special transformation powder.

Answerer:

9797513070?profile=RESIZE_400x

One of Tempest's surviving siblings, who was captured by Onyx Corp, had his memories wiped, received heavy augments for combat, and trained to be paired with a handler/rider. Like all augmented water drakes, Answerer mostly lacks a personality and only knows how to follow orders due to the brainwashing inflicted by his captors. He has a difficult time when it comes to independent thought.

Now without a rider, the modified brute actively seeks out another in hopes of being given a purpose again, unable to contemplate the idea of choosing his own path or going against what his mind was programmed to do. Anyone with a resemblance to his prior handler, even just personality-wise, is likely to be approached. It's not uncommon for someone to react negatively before Answer either retaliates or continues on.

When interacting with others, one of three things are likely to happen: Either assisting them, eliminating the one in question, or simply ignore said individual. Avoid falling into the wrong category unless he can be subdued.

Trua:

9797517668?profile=RESIZE_400x

Being a former prince from a long-lost empire, Trua is a hybrid between an Eastern dragon and a European sea drake, able to wield both water and air-manipulation-based magic. This has enabled him to take to the skies, in addition to being amphibious.

Despite the incredible feats he's capable of, he is unusually small for a Dragon, being only twenty feet long from head to tail. The former royalty suffers from amnesia, unable to remember his past. To make matters worse, he often experiences back problems due to the disproportionate amount of weight on his spine from his body structure, also mute from an injury he received to his vocal cords.

It's common for him to hide his walking disability from others, which affects him even in human form, often choosing to sit in a wheelchair when possible, or swim in water while in his true appearance to reveal the strain on his bad spine. Others may find out from him hurting himself by accident or abruptly stopping during a lengthy walk.

To communicate with others since he's mute, Trua will either use sign language, or physically write words into soil or paper if someone doesn't know it.

Mel:

9801611279?profile=RESIZE_400x

Being a biological uncle to and the same species as Tempest, Mel is an ancient sea drake who is also Trua's father, in addition to being the former leader of his now long lost pod. Said beast is very well composed due to being literally thousands of years old, he is both the oldest, largest, and most wise member of his kind, often being a father-like figure to those around who befriended him.

Having vast experience in combat, he is a prodigy with water-manipulation magic. It is said that wherever Mel is present, a great tropical storm will follow, and that his aquamancy is so advanced, that he can separate the hydrogen from oxygen, and ionize it to create a burning hot plasma, which can be fired in beams. Mel is also highly proficient in the use of cryomancy since ice is just water in a different form. Despite how devastating most of his ranged attacks can be, the big guy prefers getting up close and personal during a brawl. Very heavy explosives are needed to pierce his armored scales.

Due to his massive size, only large prey is sought after, often favoring large species of sharks (including Great Whites), walruses, and rays. One exception to this is sea lion pups, which he finds sweeter in terms of taste. Despite hunting all sorts of marine life, he does not prey on humans or two-legged beings.

  • Yes! A mutual goal does sound nice! Maya is currently in search of another character from this site named Jett. She is part of her storyline. Tempest roams because he is searching for another sea dragon correct? Maybe the two could just find this out about each other and end up becoming journey companions in the process.

Sorry I am not responding very fast. I'm currently on a little hiatus-ish. Summer time my crazy aunt goes nuts with stuff for me and her to do. I'm not even home right now lol! I'm out of town xD

  • There was a pause of silence as all parties stared, both likely bewildered at the sight. Spencer’s jaw had dropped, reminding himself on occasion to take a breath and monitor the spell he had held now longer than he ever had before. It was getting harder with the water’s pressure changes, but since reaching the opening, the temperature and depths were strangely far more accommodating to the two-legged. “...A civilization,” He finally spoke through thought when he had looked long enough to gather his bearings. The Rider remembered Nightwing’s days of old. Days where humans, elves, and dwarves alike lingered in village-like settlements among the dragons which were seen predominantly in the sky. Nothing like this, nothing he had seen in writing or spoken of before. The Water Nation’s existence was a blur on the map which few had spoken stories of.

When prompted to move, strangely Irrlith kept his perch on the opening and even settled down. His oculi were searching the landscape for aura other than the ghost of a man and the water drake. The trench between the two edges of the village scene glowed with a subtle energy that took the brute’s attention. Whether they carried on or not, the space beast seemed to pause there and rest. The energy flowing up the mountain’s trench jammed the beast’s senses with activity. All eyes closed and a low hum reverberated on occasion as his sonar reached out and began to create a mental map of the place.

Spencer lurched back a hair when Tempest suddenly took off for the buildings, but he held on promptly when his curiosity was along for the ride. Mercury hues scanned each window for signs of life and movement. Many were covered by curtains but showed hints of furniture, frames, and possible signs of life passing by… or was it his imagination?

Be careful,” Spencer’s thoughts still resonated when he willed them to. As Tempest circled, more and more lights dimmed from neighboring structures. The water felt as if it were brimming with activity but somehow seemed like no one was home. Or, no one wanted to be.

Tempest’s bang on the door was better than knowing nothing. When given the opportunity, Spencer lifted off and let himself sink down to place his feet on the old stone that made up the walkways and stairs to each pagoda-like structure. A glance went up to the sea Drake with a sense of apprehension as well as wonder. He wasn’t a betting man after the trouble that had occurred thus far.

In truth, if Spencer wanted to peek through the space he could have, but a spirit passing through one’s door was enough to make anyone panic. There was a shifting, rustling sound on the other end of the entrance at long last.

“-Who goes there?” A commanding, yet uneasy tone came from the other end of the door. The female voice housed an accent that Spencer couldn’t quite place. The Rider gave Tempest a leery glance and then looked toward the door.

    Friends of Nightwing,” Spencer stated.

“Who speaks? What has brought you here?” The voice calmed only slightly.

“My name is Spencer of Nightwing. I have with me Tempest.” There was a long period of silence on the other end of the door whether Tempest added on or not. The muffled sound of a latch being pulled free was heard and the door began to swing open a crack.

Golden honey brown eyes peered out at them at first, bewildered. The gaze swept between the two, ultimately settling on Tempest with her lips parted a hair, examining the Drake briefly. The feminine face’s complexion was pale with a light yellow hue to her skin which was iridescent… Scaled. Inhuman. Mermaid? No, Spencer thought, but a next closest guess wasn’t in mind either. The door opened to show the woman’s full face. Beneath her soft jawline along the neck were gills; where Spencer was used to seeing hair, long blonde strands seemed to mix and mesh with ear-like fins pinned back in caution to the newcomers. A hand rest on the door frame that was human-like in nature up to the small hint of webbing that laced between each finger. Her brow was furrowed.

“-Who brought you here?” The woman questioned cautiously. Her chin tipped a few degrees and kept her gaze on the sea Drake she thought to be the more precarious of the two.

  • -pats his face- "We gotta ask Veronica to make some more."

  • -boops a sushi roll on his nose-

  • Following the short phase, the haphazard expression on the Rider’s face was always meant to be reassuring, but there was no telling when it would work or not. The drake seemed to be one of those cases when there were enough questions and occurrences to spare explaining double-vision or strange white lights. Relief went through his system when deep-sea monsters and molten pits were soon to be behind them, at least for now.

The calculative space beast was their guide from then on. Irrlith’s sonar bounced back with their next course, and he made the steady climb behind and when he made it, the warm glow of the molten pit was blocked out and replaced by the cool glow of the runes inside the cave. Irrlith searched onward ahead of them, letting a passive rumble leave his jaws when it came up inconclusive.

Just as soon as they went far enough into the tunnel, the rambling thoughts of the half-elf behind him were let loose into the open air, some way or another. For the second time, Spencer looked startled when addressed by Tempest but kept his form together. “You… you can hear me? Really?” He murmured as if to test. With one more look around they were moving again. As they picked up speed Spencer held on a bit tighter again, watching the silhouettes of the rocky surfaces around them. When he looked back he saw the glowing dots of Irrlith’s eyes among the runes, getting further away at times before he could catch up in time.

“I hope you’re right… I can almost feel it,” Spencer confirmed with an ounce of hope to his tone. He listened in to the sea drake’s plan, brow furrowing as he tried to make sense of the chemistry and how. “You can control the particles, even?” He questioned with bewilderment in his tone. His memory went back to the flooded cave when the first tsunami struck, and how the water was filtered by the drake. It seemed they both had something on the table to be explained should they ever find their way out of the watery depths.

The tunnel went on for several more minutes before the cavern began to widen. Irrlith was able to stretch his hunkered down body a bit as he walked on behind them, growing more and more restless. He could pick up something… a life force? Several? There was an energy source ahead that overshadowed the smaller sea life or the drake up ahead entirely but the brute couldn’t make sense of it.

The tunnel changed in altitude to what was almost a climb for the behemoth behind them. It arched upward, leaving them in the dark as the runes grew more and more sparse, but a dim, warm light was coming from up ahead.

    9196462661?profile=RESIZE_930x

The cliff base that loomed behind the rocky entrance was littered with dim, glowing lights. The structures that settled on the rocky terrain were oriental in nature, suspended in the water no different than if it were air. The sea life flourished around the rocky edges and buildings, most of which held a dull glow to their window panes. Down below in the trench, it looked to resemble the molten pit, but the glowing below was more attune to a strange energy flowing up to its source.

Up ahead, as the pagoda-like structures continued to dapple the landscape, they tapered up into a narrow trench-like chasm that was similar to a mountain pass. They would be able to see the shadow of a larger structure far up ahead.

  • (I hope for your sake she does return and that she is all right. I apologize I cannot help..

Would you be interested in plotting?)

  • (Thank you for the welcome! No, that wasn't me, I have another character here. Kate Kane - Batwoman)

  • (Yes I'd be happy to start ^^ I do prefer to plot a bit before writing, but I do like the trill of getting to those plots through writing too! I'm curious to see Tempest's human form. Does it change since it's transformation Magick? Do you have any roles you need filled I can see if Maya can fit into those roles. I see Tempest is on an endless Migration. Maya is traveling right now too. I should be able to fluff up a nice starter :D It is just going to be nice to write with another water-based creature!)

  • (Hi hi! Thanks for accepting my invite ^.^ Not sure if you're open to threads, but if you're interested,  let me know :D)

  • Little by little Spencer’s heart rate found normal again. Had it not been for the other two being there the right time and place, he would have been food for the local wildlife... or at best, drowned by now. The fact made him cling to his seat whether his arms ached from doing so or not. His focus was on the bright light ahead as they started moving toward it. The temperature change had lowered his nerves. Another burst of energy re-emerged when he saw the source of the light they were chasing.

Just as Tempest lifted off to do his own discovery, Spencer was sitting upright and eager to look over the edge and over the Drake’s shoulder at what they had stumbled upon. It was physically impossible, how could it be possible!? Irrlith seemed to stuck in his own state of observation whether it was from the view or calculating what to do with the sudden temperature change. When the fin tapped on Spencer’s shoulder, he might feel the Rider jump out of his skin, if only for a moment. For a flash of a second, the wispy silhouette of the man came and went around him like a mirage. The phenomena had been seen before from afar, similar phase to the one that saved him from drowning in the open waters not long ago. Slate hues shifted forward to Tempest the instant he realized that the Drake had tapped him, looking embarrassed that he had jumped in the first place.

Spencer leaned further to one side then to watch the rock fall. They followed its course down the cliff where once it was almost out of sight, the stone glowed a bright orange before meeting the molten pit below. He righted his balance before Tempest kicked off again, putting them closer to the space beast. In agreement with the water drake’s words, the Rider’s eyes were scanning the edges of the molten expanse below for signs of a passage. What had been there before the fire? How could this have stayed alight for so long? Who knew.

Irrlith’s vision turned to the pair as silver orbs rotated back. They soon closed again. A deep hum was emitted from the brute. At first, it was soft, then louder. It grew resonant to the point where the fish circling the pit seemed disturbed by the vibrations. Silver eyes opened again and the two felt the familiar flash of the behemoth’s vision coming into view.

    . . .

There was a tunnel to their right, down below the cliff base. The walls glowed with the same odd energy as the pillars of the labyrinth in places; Irrlith’s senses seemed to pick up the strange energy with ease. Below.

The cave entrance greeted them after a careful climb down. As Irrlith stumbled off the cliff base he lumbered in after the two, the last portion of his tail glowing a slight orange from being a hare too close to the molten zone below. The tunnel would be a squeeze for the giant, who was already tucking his tendrils down as they could in order to pass.

"It’s unbelievable. Even in hundreds of years it still shouldn’t be- !" In the moment that they had passed far enough into the cavern’s glow. Spencer’s thoughts echoed. It felt as if they were being broadcasted into the waters, and they were. The Rider’s inner voice bounced off the cavern walls somehow or another and was able to be heard by the other two. He just about choked on water at the realization. He could feel the tingling on his back of his Riders mark and eyed the runes carved into the tunnel with suspicion. His eyes were cast forward to Tempest then.

"This place… I have a strange feeling. I don’t know what it is about it, my chest feels light. Do you feel it..? I think we should follow it… before we have more company." The fear in the spirit’s voice was genuine; he didn’t know how long he could last under the depths if they didn’t find anything on the other side.
