"She is free in her wildness, she is a wanderess, a drop of free water. She knows nothing of borders and cares nothing for rules or customs. 'Time' for her isn’t something to fight against." -Roman Payne Meticulous. Cold. Aloof. Literal. Logical. Phlegmatic. Precise.

Born and raised in New Orleans. Nothing in the basic details to warrant a second glance, and certainly nothing to write home about. Unless, of course, you're interested in the fact that I was born without a soul. It's not a common occurrence, according to the different psychics and fortune tellers and occult specialists that my superstitious parents dragged me to and from for the entirety of my childhood. They knew something was wrong when their little girl drew more and more into herself instead of blossoming into a smiling, curious child. I was a freak of nature, unable to connect with those around me, inept at developing emotional relationships, devoid of any real 'life'. Dogs growled in my presence, cats hissed, birds would cease their joyful singing as I meandered on by. Humans are supposed to have souls, supposed to be able to feel emotion thoroughly and deeply, and anything that felt that void in my chest like a dark pit of nothingness was always uncomfortable. Understandably. Because of that, it was easier to become something of a hermit rather than continue my disturbance of the outside world.
Literature has always been my solace, my asylum. Anything that could help me escape this world and pretend that I was normal. I dove into the pages, drank up the ink and let it seep into my bones, an insatiable desire to feel like I was part of the human world instead of an unfortunate mistake by some cruel-humored higher power. I am always searching for an answer, a cure, a reason for the missing piece of my puzzle, and I scoured those pages for years and years, pouring over them. Tomes and leather-bound grimoirs, ancient spells and encyclopedias.. something had to help me, right? So far, no such luck. And here I am, the owner of a small, quaint bookshop in the French Quarter, a careful guise for its true purpose- housing rare occult related artifacts and odds and ends that might give me that coveted knowledge. The whispers around the town speak of the strange woman, aloof and alone with nothing but her books to keep her company. It's an odd existence, teetering somewhere between life and death that is more comparable to purgatory than anything.
