Shaping the Man
The rolling hills of Ireland raised the man now known as Samuel Delaney. It raised his father. His mother. And all of his siblings. The Delaney's very souls were rooted in the rolling hills and rocky shores.
Life was not peaceful for them. Samuel was born shy of two decades before the Nine Years War. His entire family joined the rebellion against the Tudors. His elder brother was barely a quarter of a century, making his youngest sibling a hair over twenty. His father, who was considered an elder at the time was into his forties, but took up the sword to defend their home.
During this time, when things were looking dire, his clan was approached by one of the few remaining groups of druids. The had a plan to protect the very heart of Erie. They needed warriors. Warriors who would accept the blessings of the gods and continue to fight as long as their hearts beat. They would be given great strength and durability. Their lives would be lived for service as long as Ireland stood free.
Bran took the offer to his family as a great honor. Agreeing, they were given instructions on where to go to meet the druids. After weeks of journey across the lands they loved, they came to a valley between two low mountains where the druids waited. Ushered into a small circle of standing stones. There was no pause, no discussion, as the druids began their ritual.
The Delaney's knew nothing but pain as the magic tore into them. Time ceased to flow. Howls of wolves echoed between the stones. Where the men had stood, massive wolves of various colors and sizes struggled to their feet.
For years, The Delaney's roamed the land as it's protectors on four feet. The war ended to failure and the wolves returned to the druid compound. Decades of protecting the paths that lead to the last bastion of old Erie passed. The men began to forget they were ever men. Their loves and lives vague memories hidden behind instinct and survival.
After an attack by religious fanatics, the elder Delaney was badly injured. The druids worked to save him and realizing they needed to retreat further from the world in order to survive, they released the men from their animal bonds before disappearing into the mists where they couldn't follow.
For many years, the men roamed the hills and low mountains of the land, confused and trying to remember what it was to be men again. The blessings they were given made themselves known in human form in quick order. They had stopped aging. Their strength was more than any human could explain. Their senses sharp like that of the wolf whose form they wore for so long. The heaviest burden in the early years was the call of the moon.
Every time the moon swelled to full, she called to the men and drew them back into their furred forms to howl their song in her praise.
The wolf population in Ireland began to drop and they knew that their existence would begin to be questioned. They had learned how to blend in as humans once more and to move on before people noticed their lack of aging. Looking for better territory where they could live in peace, they boarded a ship for the America's and began a new life in the wilds of its massive shores.
The Nature of the Monster
When Sam was a young man, before war and magic changed his very essence, he was a kind, loving man who valued family and community. The valuing of family is the only thing that seems to have made it intact. He can love and can be kind, but life doesn't seem to allow it much.
His older brother Charles was to be his fathers heir. To carry the Delaney name forward into history. To produce children and build their future. Once they regained their ability to walk on two legs, Charles changed too much. The massive man still stood over seven foot. His body still strong, but unlike Sam, his wolf had helped him find a softness he didn't have before. Michael had never been meant to lead, being too sweet, and too full of laughter. His baby brother had gone off to life his own life, not wanting to be chained in by a pack or tied down to the future of the family.
Now Sam stood as the heir to The Delaney family. The next alpha. His father pushed for him to find a mate and to start expanding their family line. He pushed all of the brothers to bring more Delaney's into the world, but not as hard as he pushed Sam.
Sam wanted to have a family. It was so much of his life, his history, he couldn't imagine life without one. The way his temper had changed when he became a wolf made him unsure if he could love someone else. He never wanted to hurt someone important to him, but he snapped so easily. His wolf raging to the surface at such small things sometimes.
There were days where he thought about shifting and never coming back. Going feral and forgetting about the human side of his life forever. He couldn't though. His family needed him. The pack they were building, the adopted family, needed him.
That was part of the issue. Everyone needed him. All the time. There was never a moment for himself. He loved to run and he loved to hunt, but unless it was a full moon, he rarely got to indulge in those things. Sam and his immediate family could shift at will, but what did it matter when there was no time?
What free time he did get, he spent in the gym, or working on his classic black truck that he's restoring. It was all at home and if he had to drop it at a moment's notice, which he often did, it wasn't a big deal. His father's growing empire was to be his, but he'd take all the distractions he could get from his responsibilities.
NPCs:
Sam has a large family who are very active in his life.

Bran Delaney is Sam's father and the Alpha of their pack. He is also the head of the business, which is often on the less than legal side. After living hundreds of years the line of right and wrong becomes blurry and bendable. Bran is able to communicate with blood bonded pack members mentally within a certain mile radius. |
Charles is the oldest Delaney son, but he is a gentle giant. He's quiet, but if you harm his family, he will happily rip you apart with a smile. If he considers you pack, family, or friend, you have a stalwart protector and fighter by your side. He's shy when it comes to romance as most people who have wanted to be with him were only interested in seeing what was under the hood and have never truly cared about him. | ![]() |

Michael, who goes by Micky among family and friends, is a bit of a goof ball and the only one to get any of his mother's red hair. He's a year younger than Sam. He's always laughing, up for a joke, and the one to cheer people up. He's also vital for breaking up tension and avoiding fights among pack members. Mickey is gay and loves to flirt with pretty men. (For some RP's he can be Bisexual also.) |
Dusty Thompson, is by comparison, a young member of the pack. She was turned during an attack leaving a movie theater in the early 1920s. She's currently going to college to be a psychologist. Dusty is bisexual and loves to meet new people. She's willing to be friendly with anyone unless they give her a reason not to be. She doesn't like to fight, but can if she has too. | ![]() |
Note: These NPC characters can vary (as can Sam) depending on the RP setting and what's needed from the character. The youngest Delaney is not listed as the character does not belong to me.
