A curse, an omen—bad luck; these are all things Auralie Vieyre has been accused of during the cycle of her life—most prevalently by the members of her own crow shifter clan; and all for the simple crime of being born an albino—for having as little pigment in her feathers as she did the snow white waves of hair which swept in loose tendrils around her pallid face.
As if she could possibly be to blame for the circumstances of her birth—as if she'd had any say in how she'd come into this world at all. Aura'd always thought the very idea of such a notion was utterly ludicrous; but then—they were a flock of overly superstitious pigeons—not that she'd call them that to their faces. There was nothing that embarrassed the incredibly prideful birds more than being mistaken for the equivalent of winged vermin.
As the eldest daughter of the Vieyre clan's leadership—Auralie should have been afforded the respect befitting her station; given that she should have one day been the one to take over—to lead after her parents stepped down. But her birth was not considered something to celebrate; the moment her pallid complexion—paler even than a regular corvid shifter should have been—became apparent; the clan began to whisper. Had a curse befallen their noble clan?
They thought it all the more as the babe's little eyelids fluttered open and she stared at them with the palest violet eyes—a hue so rare none of them had ever beheld it before. It therefore must have been an omen—it couldn't possibly have been anything other. Not as the girl grew and her other differences became utterly noticeable. Whereas the rest of the corvid's of her clan had feathers the colour of a midnight sky—a black so dark; it sometimes looked as if the light were being sucked within—Aura's own glimmered like freshly fallen snow.
In a clan of midnight birds—she stood out like an ivory carving sprung to aching life.
There was a beauty in her oddity—like a diamond glittering amongst the ranks of uniformity and sameness; but that didn't stop the ridicule. Didn't stem the taunts—the jibes—the mean and hurtful words that had followed her for the entirety of her life. Her parents were beyond embarrassed; they'd told her she'd brought shame upon the clan and had been quick to name her brother—her twin; no matter how much they didn't look it—as the heir in her place.
Born three minutes after Auralie; his birth had been celebrated; he was heralded the savior of their clan. The one whom would one day erase the omens stain upon their noble collective.

The idea that her twin brother was destined to grow up and erase her; might have upset Auralie—if not for the fact they were super close. Whilst the rest of their clan vilified and taunted her—her brother was her champion; her protector—her best—pretty much only friend. He stood up for her. Fought her bullies—shielded her from the threats. To everyone else; Aura was an omen—but to her brother; she was the most cherished thing in his world and he did everything in his power to assure her she was loved and cared about; that she wasn't the abomination that their clan thought her to be.
This didn't mean that Aura found it easy to be around people—she was pretty much a loner by nature; her witty somewhat sassy nature acting as a defensive mechanism—a shield. As if she thought if she came across abrasive. If she didn't let people get too close—then she couldn't be hurt if they let her down the way others—besides her brother—always did.

Like the embodiment of yin and yang itself the twins couldn't be more outwardly different if they tried. Alicide is everything the clan hoped they would be; the physical embodiment of every ideal the Vieyre Clan has. They've even gone as far as to assume his existence was a guarantee that the curse of his sister's existence could be undone—that he would be the one to do it. Contrary to those beliefs though—Alicide is incredibly close to his sister. Protective even—oftentimes starting fights to defend her honour. He shares Aura's beliefs that their family are nothing but a bunch of overly superstitious pigeons with sheep mentality; what one believes; the others follow as if they'd been shepherded.
