She was born the archangel Samael. Samael brought Ash to the Winchesters, knowing they will get her ready and for Azazel to give her demon blood, hoping to build the ultimate weapon, Half angel and half demon. He was successful. She grew unknowing of her powers and grew close to Sam and Dean, becoming both their protectors. She would take beating for them from their father John so they could be safe
