Character History/Story
Dakota Daniels. Known by her stage name Gemini. Front woman to a local nu metal band called A Legacy of Honesty who play a fair amount of shows with packed venues for an independent band with no label or proper promos
Gemini has spent a lot of her childhood and teen years in and out of foster homes. Her parents would lose custody, get her back, and then lose it again. As a result she's formed a very distant personality.
She comes off as rude, obnoxious and self centered to protect herself. It's easier and safer to hate people than it is to become attached. Or at least that's what she tells herself to ease that aching pit in her chest
As soon as she turned 18 she left her parents house and has been couch hopping ever since. Sometimes it's with members of her band, and other times it's with strangers.
Gemini doesn't really care about anyone else. She doesn't have any friends or a significant other but she does have her grandmother. A sweet old woman who, despite her best efforts, couldn't save Gemini from her home life.
Her grandmother is the only person she allows to call her Dakota, but even then the old lady just calls her Kota
She didn't hold it against the old woman for being unable to help her out of such a bad environment and she hadn't told her grandmother she had been homeless and couch hopping the last 6 years and working herself into the ground to afford the woman's hospice care
It was cancer. The doctors said it was terminal. It had made it's way into her bones and was too far along to fix or try to cure. Even if they could've cured her, her grandmother would have refused. They'd been fairly poor her whole life and she knew her grandmother would never subject them to so much medical debt. So every Saturday, Tuesday, and Friday at noon she sits next to her grandmother's bed for a few hours to talk, or read, or even play her some music of hers
When she's not playing gigs she's winning poker and pool games in the local dive bars while she gets drunk and takes far too many illegal substances. She doesn't remember the last time she was one hundred percent sober. Sobriety always made those dark thoughts and feelings surface.
She'd always been an empath. Capable of feeling emotions on a much deeper level than the average person and most days she hated it. She hated having a soft spot in her heart. So much weakness.
Gemini is rough on the outside. Angry, dunk a junkie, pessimistic, selfish and what most would consider a lowlife she guessed.
But she is also sensitive, funny, accepting and a good person despite what people may think at first glance
