Malory wasn’t a kid who believed in magic—the tooth fairy, Santa Clause—that was all a bunch of nonsense to her. Those things just weren’t real to her, despite how hard her mother tried to stop her from spoiling Christmas for her younger brothers. When Malory was fifteen, her parents divorced, and her mother took full custody of Malory and her younger twin brothers, Simon and Jarred. No longer being able to afford their home in upstate New York with her income, Malory’s mom packed up the kids and moved them to Maryland, where Malory’s great, great uncle had left a house to the family. Arthur Spiderwick had disappeared one afternoon nearly seventy years ago, and left the house to his closest living relative. That was his daughter, Lucinda, who had been a little girl when he disappeared, but she had been put into a series of care homes after spouting a bunch of nonsense about her father being taken away by fairies and goblins living in the woods around her house, leaving the house to Malory’s mother.

The first week in that house changed Malory’s life forever.

crush 2013 | Explore Tumblr Posts and Blogs | TumgirHer brother, Jarred, discovered a book in a secret room in the attic, written by Arthur. It was filled with drawings, descriptions, teeth, claws, skin, and wings of imaginary creatures, like goblins and sprites, phenoxies and gryphons, dwarves and elves. Now, according to the book, humans can’t naturally see these creatures, they needed to look through a rock with a natural hole in it, or hold a four-leaf clover for a temporary glimpse into the other world. Or, they could soak their eyes in fairy bathwater or hobgoblin spit, giving them what’s called the Sight…forever. Jarred believed every word, and tried convincing his family, but, of course, no one believed him, especially Malory. And she didn’t believe him until she saw Jarred’s twin, Simon, be dragged into the woods by nothing. Turns out, it was a goblin pack, who lived within the woods around the house (also turns out Aunt Lucinda was right), thought that Simon was the twin who had the book. That book, Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastic World Around You, has more information about some of the creatures than those creatures even knew about themselves. That book…That book almost got Malory and her brothers killed while trying to keep it out of the hands of the goblins and their ogre master, Mulgarath. Mulgarath planned on using the information from the field guide to destroy and rule over all other fairies by exploiting their weaknesses Arthur had discovered.

Thankfully, with Malory now convinced, Jarred and her were able to save Simon. The three of them were given the Sight perinatally by a hobgoblin—he very kindly spit in their faces after eating a roasted cat, their roasted cat—making it easier for them to fight the battle they had gotten themselves into. Trolls and goblins sent by Mulgarath terrorized the Grace siblings, their house, their mother. The conclusion of the battle columnated at the Grace family’s new house, ending with their house completely ransacked, filled with dead goblins, and Mulgarath, thankfully, dead, eaten by previously mentioned hobgoblin.

The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008) - Cinema Cats

Mulgarath was dead, and as far as they knew, the information about Arthur’s book wasn’t spread farther than all the beings that were now currently turning into mush on their kitchen floor. The book was safe, and they were safe. Mostly. Now that they knew about this world, they were a part of it, especially Malory. With her experience in fencing and sword fighting, she became the main hunter and protector of the family. Jarred, when he became an adult, learned how to use a variety of guns, letting him help Malory hunt. Simon, on the other hand, became the researcher of the Grace kids, adding onto their great, great uncle Arthur’s research. Though this time, they kept it a lot more secretive—they didn’t want another battle with an ogre.

daily sarah bolger on Twitter: "Sarah Bolger as Emily Thomas in season 2 of #MayansMC #MayansFX… "

Now, ten years later, Malory is the only one who still lives in the house where all of this started.

At the age of twenty-seven, she was the last member of her family to still live at the estate in Thurmont, Maryland. Her brother Jarred had moved to Northern California, where he kept an eye on the giant and dragon populations. There was a very delicate balance to maintain between the two species that had a habit of killing each other. Simon, on the other hand, had moved back to upstate New York with her mother Helen. Simon got a job with computer programming, and Helen was writing a series of short stories and novels that just happened to reflect real life events a bit too much for Malory’s liking. Especially when she was the one creating the illustrations for said stories.

Malory was…just a bit of an outcast. The people of Thurmont weren’t cruel to her—aside from the odd kids that kept sneaking onto her property—but they definitely kept their distance. Something always weird happened around the Spiderwicks, ever since her uncle had gone missing and his daughter spouted stories about fairies until her dying days. Then Malory’s little family showed up, and well…you shouldn’t cross paths with a black cat or walk under an open ladder, and you shouldn’t talk to the family who speak with monsters. Malory was avoided by most anyone in the town, only a handful of the citizens either didn’t care about her family’s history, or believed her. Chuck, the owner of the local secondhand book shop in town, had his own share of witnessing the strange and unusual. Hell, he even had a brownie living in his shop, who kept the place clean and free of moths. The creature was shy, though, and both him and Malory had only caught glimpses of it, despite all the honey Malory had tried to bribe it with. Chuck was probably the closest person Malory had to a friend, though they didn't hang out outside of the shop.

"Are you sure you're human?"

Malory had been asked this by a Tree Elf that lived in the woods around Malory's house once. The elf had been alive for nearly a century, not wandering much farther than the roots of their birth tree, but Malory saw them often enough while hunting in the area. Of course, Malory's innitial respone was "Of course I am, what else could I be?" And didn't think about it much farther than that. The Tree Elf didn't elaborate, and Malory moved on. Malory didn't have any reason to believe she was anything other than human, and she honestly forgot the conversation shortly afterwards.

Though Malory was unaware, there could be a case made that something wasn't quite...normal, with her.

  • It wasn’t hard to follow behind the pair, both were in a hurry, doing more to make tracks than to cover them. Branches broken, heavy footsteps. Since when did a thing like that know Christian was coming? Hell, Christian hadn’t known it himself more than fifteen minutes before moving on it. And the girl – for a cop something was wrong. No gun, that was it. The thing on her hip was a sword. What -- was she as old as he was? Curious as her case appeared Christian still assumed the worst: that she would be calling for back-up to her location. That would make the place real crowded, real fast.

Just as he thought to pick up the pace the need for tracking them anymore was gone. An incredible roar bellowed through the forest and echoed off of trees. He broke off path, tearing through branches and brush. Like the ogre, he could move faster than his size suggested. Again the knife was out of his pocket. All things like this one felt wrong, but this was special. In addition to taking the head-butt a bit personal, he didn’t like the idea of something hiding in the body of a man. He had seen and felt how strong it was. This time, Christian was ready, and he was going to drag it out of that body.

When he broke the tree like he stopped himself to the sight of a monster. A true one, large enough to draw his eyes toward the sky in order to study the horns. Suddenly the magnitude of the roar made sense. Had this thing eaten the man he was chasing? Was that why it felt the same? Unfortunately, it didn’t matter. Without thinking the knife flipped around in his hand, fingers clamped down on the smooth flat of the blade. It was impossible that this creature was the man who had bear hugged him, and yet just as impossible that it was anything but his target. His stomach turned and his heart thumped harder in his chest. It was a feeling he only genuinely felt in the presence of something he had to kill: fear. Every kill was rough, but he never regretted a single hunt.

“This one, I may regret…” he muttered, raising his arm before hurling the large blade through the air to lodge in the thigh of the monster.

No sooner than the blade left his hand did his eyes flicker left and right for sight of the cop. Had it eaten her, too?  Was that bad? Christian didn't kill to save lives (did he?) and no cop body was better than a dead cop body.

  • I owe Zura, then Mai, then Christian, then Zura, again. I will get to everyone by Friday at the latest. Just...a lot of stuff going on right now.

  • Zura just smiled as she watched Malory scarf the food down along with her drink and ordered more. It was nice to see she had a healthy appetite and was not one of those girls who weighed everything they ate. Course she didn’t have to worry about Malory getting fat on her. Not with the job Malory had that forced her to use a lot of physical exertion. Of course there was always that passionate lovemaking that they did. Sure made Malory sweat a good amount and burned those calories.

“Hungry baby? Please. Eat up and drink. It’s all on me. You will need your energy for the next coming days. I think ima have you try to learn surfing with me and go scuba diving while we are here. Maybe hit up a mall and go shopping or something. We gotta buy suveniors right?  Also, don’t think our room even has a couch, just a big bed and a big tv with a nice size bathroom and closet space. Could’ve gone with a jazcui and a few futons but I figured we be busy out in the sun so that would go to waste. Same with a pool since there is a beach right outside our hotel.  No worries. We got time for the baby making. I’m just excited about it is all. To be able to create life, kinda spitting in the eyes of .... God.  A demon of hell giving birth to something. Maybe I’m over thinking it since I seen a few movies with demons getting women knocked up but usually it because they are trying to birth the anti Christ or Satan.  No demon cares about having a normal kid and raising a family.

Except those rare few like myself who wants kids for my own sake and not for Lucifer’s ambitions. Are you fine with being the little spoon? I spend so much time as the big spoon that I never thought to ask if you want to trade spots or if you prefer behind held in my arms instead of you holding me in yours.  And you are right. Because I am a demon I do like your scars. I also like horns, bat wings, scales, animal eyes, a tail, sometimes cloven hooves when I’m in that particular fetish.  But these scars, you know there is a chance they might fade away right? Once your body goes through the changes. “

  • Christian groaned. Whatever it was, it wasn’t easy to sneak up on and he wouldn’t forget that. But had it heard him, or anticipated him? He secured the knife back in his pocket, hoping no one had paid it much attention.  A bystander had made their way over to him in concern and Christian knew better than to be dismissive. People remembered things like that.

“You alright, he take something from you?”

    “No, I’m fine, thank you.”

“They both went that way. Want me to call a cop?”

“No, no reason to get the law. Both, you said?”

“Yep, right up that way.” The stranger answered with a point.

Christian thanked the man and began that way. He had very little doubt now: the second party was the woman he had laid eyes on twice and she was almost certainly a detective. She had all the right symptoms, especially pursuing a man much larger than herself for something as simple as battery. She was ambitious, and going to be a problem.

He didn’t know the city well but he knew the hunt. He cut into the forest and then slowed his pace, studying the surroundings for signs of either of them. He temporarily changed tactics, from hunting the new creature to hunting her. Christian had a way of finding evil, but people, regular people, he had to keep his eyes on. The pair may have had a lead on him, but unlike wandering around strange cities for things like this, Christian was at home hunting in the forest. He took his time and picked up on their trail. Everything seemed routine, even the presence of the law in the mix and he didn’t much like that either. Anytime the math was simple, the math was wrong.

    [Apologies for the delay.]

  • Ryan nearly hisses at the woman’s nonchalant ways when she may very well be spending her final seconds in a dark cave. “What does she do to you humans to make you follow her so blindly?!” He begins to circle around Malory now as hunters do to prey. “The market. They sell for ten times more than what we’d be worth.” Maybe a little less impressive that what she may have thought, but there is a whole underworld that sells all sorts of creatures. “Well, I don’t see why you should live much longer.” He begins to approach her as he flashes his fangs.

There’s a loud explosion above ground followed by someone slamming through the ground and into the floor behind Ryan. He takes this as a cue to get at least one good punch in before Mai shows up. He pulls his fist back and attempts to hit Malory square in the chest.

She would feel a gush of fresh air then hear Ryan’s fist hitting metal. Mai made it in between the two with her shield up. She didn’t wait for him to realize what had happened and a bright flash illuminated the entire cave. The solar flash that came off of Mai’s shield was enough to irritate Ryan’s flesh. Mai then moves her shield to the side and reaches her hand out. A blast of white flames comes out of her palm and forces Ryan back.

Mai’s next move is to get herself and Malory out of the way. She turns around to grab Malory, and everything turns white again. They appear on the road above just in time to see the death worm diving back into the hole they were just in. Hopefully no one would tell it to turn around as Mai is cutting her losses early. Too many people are around for a full on battle against a death worm and a now unidentifiable person in an advanced suit of armor. Plus, Malory was about to go toe-to-toe with a vampire. Impressive, but she isn’t sure how long that fight would’ve lasted.

Soon the tremors stop and Mai can safely assume the others have left as well. Her armor retracts and forms into a small metal ball once more. Mai directs her attention to Malory now. Her eyes turn white and she steps in close to Malory. “Don’t freak out, I’m just checking you out.” She places her right palm on Malory’s chest, and her hand begins to emit a green light. She looks her body up and down to check for anything wrong. “Well, not like checking you out, I meant… That was a mean fall.” She changes the subject as a warm sensation spreads throughout Malory’s body. Anything that would’ve been a bruise or a sprain was made right. It wasn’t anything major, but Mai figured she might as well. “All good.” She moves her hand away and her eyes revert back to green.

“I hope that wasn’t too much for you?” She smiles nervously as she hopes Malory isn’t mad at her for not explaining the full extent of what she’s up against. To be fare she didn’t expect the death worm either. The last time she saw one was in her old homelands, but that one would speak. This one seemed more feral, and didn’t hold the WL marking on top of its head. “The FBI will be here shortly to make everything right again.” She isn’t sure what Malory feels about all of this. Maybe she wants out? Mai couldn’t blame her. She’s dealing with forces that are trying to dominate the world, not just make a few million dollars. Mai feels overwhelmed herself sometimes too, but it must be different from Malory’s perspective. “Are you okay?”

  • (You're fine. Plus I have no room to complain about delays xD I'll have a reply for you in the morning. In the meantime maybe you might want to look over how I have the stories going? Not that it effects the story we have right now, but eventually once this story wraps up I was going to transition this into the Main story if that was alright. Malory will still be with Mai, but there would be the few run ins with the other five.)

  • Zura would focus on her food and drink while she was figuring out their itinerary for this vacation.  She didn’t take too much time to savor her food since she gulped it all down rapidly, followed by her drink, in which she ordered two more off.  Once her plate was clean, she ordered herself some strawberry shortcake as a desert and would pick at it while she looked at Malory.

“So no couch for me? That is nice to hear.  You know how I hate to sleep alone without any cuddles. You know how I like to snuggle and cuddle.  I can’t wait for our baby, to see what she will be like, to create life for the very first time.  Hmmm are you going to get drunk now? In the middle of the day? Hhmmm well we have loads of time out here so if you want to get loaded and then go take a nap at our hotel. That is fine. And yes. You can pick the destination next time.  Granted I’ll probably have somewhere in mind but I’m thiking of a long tour of Europe or someplace. So plenty of spots for you to pick for us. So I suggest start researching destination travel spots across Europe. “

Zura reached out to grab hold of one of Malory’s hands and slowly rubs it with her fingers and thumb.

“I love you babe, I know how you get neurotic over things but you got to learn to relax more. Be more like Sarah and not Director Sharpe. ...... sorry this show I been watching has this ex assassin in love with a by the book , semi work a holic, serious type lover and be possible clone or something.  We are going to have to do something about them scars but as you know. No one can see them and if they did, I’m sure they wouldn’t care. “

The spell she cast would be wearing off by the time they got to the beach later on. More then enough time for Malory to try and get use to things before the spell was gone for good and Zura would tell her later that the glamour faded and everyone could see the scars yet made no direct mention of.

  • There was no natural lighting in the tunnel past the light coming from the hole. Ryan could be anywhere in the tunnel at this point. He could even be at the other side of the tunnel already. There was also the smell of death lingering in the tunnel. It must have come off the worm as it was digging through. There was also no telling how deep the tunnel went as there was no light at the end to be seen. Then suddenly a deep voice spoke out from the dark.

“I expected Mai… Not a… Human? Hm… Very well.” The hole above began to close up and light began to fade from the tunnel. “I suppose I could use you.” Light steps could be heard approaching Malory. “Tell me, human. What has she told you to make you come down here and throw your life away? Or are you down here to help me make money? What’s your purpose here?” He hasn’t caused any harm to her just yet, but he can see where she is.

Mai was aware of Malory going down the hole after Ryan, but she couldn’t get down there just yet. Her opponents weren’t about to let her go. She has to find a way to move quickly and help Malory. She isn’t quite sure on her abilities when it comes to fighting other species.

She faces her two opponents and gets ready for an attack. She appears directly in front of the other armored enemy and hits her with the top of her shield. Mai then swings her sword only to have it deflected with an axe. The worm then tries to drop down on Mai once again. Mai forms a wall in front of her and runs to it. She runs up the wall and jumps herself onto the worm. Her other opponent follows her up as well.

The two begin to clash weapons again. Mai is doing her best to find a way to defeat the armor, but it’s no easy thing to do. Mai might be able to move too fast for it, but she’s not sure on the species of the person that is inside the armor. She’s still not sure how this armor was acquired. Was it taken from her? Or did someone else make a version of her father’s armor? She can’t kill this person in front of her. She has too many questions that she needs answers for.

“So what’s your answer, human..? What are you going to do?”

  • (No need to rush. I'm very patient. Take the time you need! It's better you not stress yourself too much. Remember to breathe and that it's okay not to reply right away. Always think about your own needs first.)

  • Mai kept her eyes on the ground. As one more tremor occurred before the ground was still. All was quiet for a minute before the street began to crack. Something was trying to come up. Mai now has a metal ball in her hand, but rushes over to Malory. She was about to speak, but the ground blows open and out comes a monster from horror movies. A giant worm with plenty of teeth. Once it breaches the surface it lets out a deafening screech.

Mai looks back at it only for a second before she’s trying to move Malory into the bar. “It’s a death worm, and it eats living things… I’ll be right back.” Mai crushes the ball in her hand and activates her armor. Metallic pixels begin to cover her body and solidify into an armor as she walks out into the street to face the monster. She’s sure Malory would probably want out of this deal as soon as this encounter is over. She wouldn’t blame her. When Mai first saw a death worm she didn’t very much want to stay in the area she was in.

Her shield materializes in her left, and she draws her katana in her right hand. She about to start running to this monster until she notices something very off. Aside from the massive worm of course. Her target was casually walking over to it as if it was a pet. Not only that, there was someone else in an armor similar to Mai’s standing beside him.

She begins to slowly approach with her shield up before announcing herself. “FBI! Ryan Gage you’re under arrest for several counts of murder and human trafficking! Whoever your friend is there is also under arrest for the possession of an illegal weapon fashioned as Warlord Armor! Come with me and drop-“ Mai is cut off by a hail of submachine fire to her shield.

And suddenly the street becomes a war zone. Mai holds her ground against the small arms fire until the worm dives right on top of her. Before it could land on her however a massive ball of white flames hits it right under the chin. Mai is about to launch another fire ball at it before she’s kicked in the gut. The hit sends her off into the side of a parked car, but she’s quick to get herself up. Mai darts after the other person in armor attacking her and they begin to clash. Her opponent also draws out two axes to fight Mai.

While the two are in a scuffle Ryan jumps into the hole created by the worm and is surely making his way from the battle scene.
