She was inevitable
She was ruthless
She embodied the definition of karma
Let her play, or get the fuck away.
After undergoing rehabilitation at the Hunter Society Headquarters, her irrational behavior and destructiveness simmered down immensely. It's as if she's a different person, but it doesn't mean her violent tendencies have escaped her. In fact, her being calmer just makes her all the more deadlier. She used to whistle for people to hear her approach, but now with a clearer mind makes for a quicker, more strategic approach in taking down targets. Agnes' reputation still stands as an insane, trigger-happy monster to strangers trespassing her territory and most of the underground, and proving them wrong makes her job all the more pleasurable.
She's cold, stark, and brutally honest with strangers. If you aren't a nuisance, you're competition, and if you put up with her just enough, you may even befriend her. This is harder for women than it is for men, not that she prefers one over the other, but the fact that the intensity of her Type A personality tends to spark conflict or drive them away. To her friends, Agnes is compassionate and a little silly even, teasing them in a playful manner.
However, she is incredibly selective of the inner circle she maintains. Agnes is a New Yorker with a spitfire attitude
that lies beneath a calm, sophisticated demeanor.

"I Call Shots, While You Call Off."
Her past is dark and twisted, the entirety of her childhood was devoted to becoming a trained marksman for a corporate mafia family in Manhattan, NYC. One event led up to another for the next four years, an organized coup occurred that she took part in, dissolving the family's name, yet the business was immediately taken by her drill instructor that he withheld. Agnes remained close to her former instructor and to the details of his business.
Nine years later, his assets were choked by another mafia boss attempting to his usurp his resources. Agnes was told to murder her former instructor, with some help, as he was about to give in to this interloper's demands. After his untimely death and successfully disposed of the intruding mafia boss, Agnes finds herself with more power than she had ever asked for. She now runs half of the borough's manfacturing, shipment, and transactions of weapons of trade. Agnes knew enough about the quality of artillery, but didn't know she would be knee deep in the arms industry.
Her territory stretches from the Upper West Side to below Hell's Kitchen. Her colleague, Apollonius Grimm, has the other half, as equal as it can get. With a calmer demeanor, Agnes attempts to not abuse her power. Her hands don't get as dirty as her previous job, but at times she will personally check exports and is conscious about the safety of her men if a transaction goes awry.
Another source of income for Agnes is being the co-owner of a bar and cafe called Sundown. It was once a rustic, narrow bar in Hell's Kitchen, but after getting her new occupation, it has moved into Columbus Avenue in the Upper West Side. Her bad reputation and mysticized beast form has made the bar an attraction for tourists, Agnes blames the locals for this. She used to be the bouncer for Sundown, but after the notoriety began, Spencer, co-owner/parental figure, took up the job to prevent anymore unwanted attention coming her way. Sundown is the ground level entrance to high-end apartments above it where Agnes resides, so she is typically seen there for leisure or to converse with Spencer.

"Catcall And You're a Corpse."
Agnes wears light, breathable clothes when running through the streets, and isn't afraid to show some skin, even in the coldest weather. Her raven locks spill over her shoulders, lacking any dye as she has decided to keep her natural hair. Agnes has metallic blue eyes like her father and pale skin like her mother. A dull tattoo of three roses and an upside-down compass lies just below her right shoulder.
She has something close to a Jersey/Brooklyn accent. When the wolf skull materializes, so do a pair of wolf ears, serving as a great indicator of her emotions due to the fact that her face is concealed. Agnes's physique is lean and toned, free running through allies and parkour on rooftops. She has enhanced senses, her most powerful is being able to smell someone familiar three city blocks away. The wolf grants her increased endurance, stamina, speed, and strength.
...
"That's Not All, Folks."
Agnes can shift into a hellish creature that she inherits from her mother, a massive dire wolf with some areas of her skeleton revealed. She has already allowed the wolf to swallow up her humanity at a young age, being in complete control in this form that acts almost like a power-up. However, there are consequences when using the wolf, one being that she is stuck in this form for the next couple of days and once reverted Agnes becomes immensely lethargic, becoming vulnerable to her enemies.

"Chaton" | "Dom"
Dominic has been the quickest relation Agnes has ever made. It started off with a debt after Dominic gave her a job to do, but they found themselves around each other more often than not. The vampire knows more about her than anyone she's ever met, and she trusts in him to maintain that secrecy. Complicated feelings floated to the surface, Agnes has never been more sure of her feelings. She has always adored the vampire, but with issues of his coven coming to light, Agnes can't imagine her life without him. She loves him, more than words can explain, and will do everything in her power to keep him close and comfortable.

• Due to help in unlikely places, Agnes and her demons are one and the same. Her blood is black, and too toxic to harbor a child, so she believes. Another result are two new powers. One being the ability to manipulate shadows for her to hide in and travel in short distances beneath its veil. The other being an increase in strength.
• Agnes is just as deadly without her ammunition. While she was learning how to handle a sniper rifle at the age of twelve, Agnes was being trained in Brazilian ju-jitsu, eskrima, as well as parkour to build her stamina and endurance while she was in the mafia. She was pitted against full grown, trained men over and over until Agnes became highly proficient at all three.
• Agnes is fluent in English, Italian, and French, and understands bits and pieces of Japanese from her instructor when she was younger. She's eager to have more languages under her belt.
• Agnes prefers to adopt her father's last name, 'Hale'. She knows she has relatives, but they all stem from her mother's side, who she disowned.
• She never had a childhood, pop culture references fly over her head. That's in the works of being fixed.
• Her birthday is on Halloween

The vampire’s arms wrapped around her when he was close enough to catch her hug, and his arms would be the last ones to loosen whenever she was ready. He rested his chin over her shoulder with a small audible hum. He missed the sight of Sundown and the particular beat of Agnes’ heart among the patrons. Most of them paid no mind, but the few that did, gave glances toward them briefly. “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long, then,” A kiss on her cheek was placed before Dominic stepped away, turning toward the door. His gaze flickered to Spencer with a nod after Agnes had done so, and they were off.
With a glance to each side of the sidewalk, he led the way toward the car parked across the street. Dom took a seat on the driver's side and in moments, the engine jumped to life once he hit the key. He let his hand fall into hers, stroking his thumb along the top. The subtle gesture paused when she mentioned the trouble in his absence. “At the bar… really?” His other hand on the shifter had paused while he studied her expression; the calm tone of voice had a way of talking him down from all immediate questions. When he realized it, Dominic brought the car to life and pulled out en route to Lombardi’s.

“Right back to the beginning,” Dominic hummed as they took their seats, having given a nod to the host on their way in. Thirty years was more than enough time to make friends in strange corners of the city, the longstanding restaurant’s family organization was among them. The vampire’s hand tapped absently at the condensation on his glass for a moment until Agnes commented. A grin spread on his face when Mercy was mentioned. He propped a hand under his jaw. “If gambling is your next potential business venture, Chiot, then no better time to make friends. Need I remind you, she has to be at least half my age. Still, witches can manage to live long lives.”
The grin on his face remained, and he picked up his glass to take a drink. He cleared his throat. “Poland was fine. The trip was mostly travel. We came out under budget on our object when the auction ended. No fuss from anyone, coming or going. That’s all I could hope for,” The vampire’s shoulders shrugged. Before he could speak much further, their order was placed on the table between them. He waited for their server to leave after a round of thanks and turned back toward Agnes a little more gravely.
“As for your exciting week, were you visited in the daytime… or at night?” The tone of caution was kept low, his words vague enough for the bustling restaurant. “It seems someone is still making moves behind the scenes. Are you sure you are alright?”
I’ll pick you up. I’ll be there in an hour.
His message was sent back promptly after she pinged. Dominic leaned back onto his heels and turned toward the shop's back door where he heard a chirp. Nina’s head rose from where she was coiled in the reclining chair in the corner, purring happily at seeing the familiar face in the odd hour. He gave her a few loving pets before closing the shop again and heading out the back door.
I’m downstairs.
The car was parked across from Sundown. Dom had made his way into the bar and did a glancing sweep of the room, walking in strides when he spotted her.
“Did you miss me?” He piped up, whether it was to get Agnes’ attention or respond when she looked up to his footsteps. The vampire was dressed in street attire as always: Black jeans, a long-sleeved button-up, which was left open to a white t-shirt. The smile on his face spoke clearly that he had missed her.
The following week went with radio silence from the vampire, besides the messages sent back and forth via text. While Dahlia was informed about things such as planes landing and items procured, it was Agnes who got the occasional texts and photos of the landscapes in Poland, where he settled into the settlement-style town outside of Wrocław. Many of his auctions and meetings were arranged just like that; an hour or two outside of the city under the noses of the general population. Church halls, underground bunkers, and back alley speakeasies were not unusual for the hidden undertakings of the preternatural world and those who walked among them in business.
While high-stakes, the auctions were secure. The only risks involved were the rarity of the items and the curious company that was kept around him while the proceedings went on.
. . .
Three days had passed when the vampire’s feet touched the ground back in New York. He was bundled up as always with a hood over his head, sunglasses pulled, in desperate need of a cigarette and several ounces of something far more important back at Paradox. Nonetheless, he waited for the checked bag that he had brought back from the excursion, loaded with whatever item had been won at the auction.
I’m home, Dominic typed and hit send. A cab was taken to Paradox when he hit the parking lot. Another string of texts was thrown her way once he was seated.
Dine in, dine out?
Let’s go somewhere.
Pick somewhere you haven’t been, Chiot.
While he waited for her response, the item was secured where it was needed in the shop basement. He got a 'bite to eat' before he checked his phone again, leaning back against the counter.
(Thank you for the invite!)
Thank you for the add :) xx
“I quite like the penny slots…” Dominic responded amusingly. His expression remained contemplative, thinking back to the witch’s club, and just how quickly the enchantments had taken their hold. His eyes followed her hand then. “You know, love comes in a thousand forms. You don’t have to worry about whether I enjoy our time together, Chiot. I promise you more than anything, I do.” His smile grew a tad warmer with every knuckle kissed.
The vampire settled in against her for the remainder of their drive. A hum left his chest in agreement, edging on a laugh when she poked his cheek. His head rested on top of hers. “I’ll make something I haven’t for you yet, then.”
The car rolled to a stop in front of the shop soon enough. A quick kiss was given on his way out of the car. “Semiformal,” Dominic confirmed. “I’ll text you when I leave.” He pulled the shades back on and headed back inside.
-/-
“I thought you fed this morning. Getting a little greedy aren’t you?”
“No.”
Dom stood in the basement toward the end of his shift, gripping the door handle behind the counter space. He let go for a moment and turned toward the Dahlia. “I’m being careful… I’m going to Agnes’ this evening.”
“How have you been lately?” The mage’s arms crossed loosely where she leaned against one of the barrister cases. “It feels like something changed with you, since London.”
“...” Dominic’s brow furrowed. Luckily the sinking feeling in his mind didn’t stay long.
“I’m happy for you, Dom. I really am.”
His expression relaxed. He smiled, even. The man knew all too well, that the Serbian woman’s compliments were few and far between.
“...thank you.”
The card differed from that of the topside of the record shop. A single serif letter ‘P’ stood embossed against the slick surface. On the back was the address and a single phone number, no more, no less. Once it was handed over, the vampire seemed content with himself. His eyes floated between the two women until he heard lively footsteps incoming. It seemed the evening had begun.
The vampire would keep his composure when he turned back toward the witch, but the relief that their stray dragon was being rehomed for the evening had set in. Surely, surely the demoness shared the sentiment. The two gave their final goodbyes to one another, and to Dominic’s surprise, he was drawn in for a hug as well. He kept it short and sweet compared to the two women and followed Agnes up the stairs toward their exit. The hood was pulled taut, the sunglasses were held and ready.
Once they were outside of the knitting shop, he couldn’t even get a word in before Agnes turned around. His hands took her waist and he leaned into her kiss, holding on until she chose their lips to part. Dominic’s eyes opened in time to see her turn again and pull the car door open. He wore a tight-lipped grin that showed up to his once-more amber hues. He followed after and took a seat, shutting the car door behind.
“Charming, I haven’t been a son-in-law for over four hundred years…” His tone was no less than teasing. “I was on my best behavior.” The grin couldn’t possibly be wiped off. By some miracle, the vampire left it at that, for now. Instead, his gaze also wandered to the package in her lap.
When she mentioned the blood mage, his brow rose. Dominic’s lips pursed and the grin subsided. “Dahlia, really? I’m sure our HR department would hear all about that… it's been a moment since I gave her a reason to call me pathetic,” He muttered sarcastically. He gave Agnes a sweeping glance and a coy smile returned. “I’ll admit, love… it’s hard not to feel bested, by a bloody candle nonetheless,” He murmured in a whisper. An elbow propped on the car door, and his cheek rested atop his hand. His other hand reached out for hers—should it not burst her into flames. “Did you have any other plans this evening, Chiot? I can cook something if you'd like,” He proposed. “We could stay in… seeing that we no longer have your shadow to worry about.”
It took all of the vampire’s fortitude to keep his attention on Mercy, harboring a far wider grin under the surface than he would let show. Dominic’s lips parted to respond in due time. Agnes beat him to it with haste, and the man let out a short hum to confirm what was spoken.
Her hand found his, hot to the touch compared to his, ice cold. He complied when it returned to his lap. A single look said a thousand words. He turned his attention from the feverish demoness to reach in a jacket pocket. “Paradox is a supplier of supernatural wares on a small and large scale. I specialize in objects of dark arcana. Texts, weaponry, pieces of historical significance. My colleague Dahlia specializes in enchantments and the neutralization of cursed objects. We also carry some magic items better off left alone.” A sleek black business card was pulled from his jacket and held out between his fingertips. He looked at Mercy like there was every intention of proving that the card wouldn’t bite. “If it sounds intriguing at all, come by. Let me show you, is all I ask.”
When he finished his elevator pitch, he glanced back to Agnes, just a little too innocent.
“You will always get an honest answer,” Dominic responded quietly. His eyes wavered when she spoke, going a tad distant when Agnes spoke of wants, and intentions. While his hand still stroked hers, he could vividly remember a time capsule memory of a body on the floor, and what song was humming in the background that night. A night he thought he had made peace with, but it still came creeping into his mind at times and seeped through with the silence in the car. He drew in a breath once he remembered he needed it to speak. “I love you, and… I promise.”
-/-
There was a glint in the vampire’s eye with Mercy’s short response, leaving the witch’s ability open to the imagination. Dominic did best to keep himself in the present while the two spoke of the recent events, pulling the woman’s face into his thoughts of the event. His attention was equal parts on the demoness’ heart rate as it fluctuated curiously, and the push and pull of her breaths which changed on occasion.
A brow quirked. Agnes might feel the vampire’s side glance as he pieced it all together.
You initiated a war, little demon... The witch’s words settled far too casually in the room. Jazz was dead, and Dominic was content with the fact after his brief meeting. If Mercy shared the sentiment, then perhaps the burden was ever so slightly off Agnes’ shoulders. He relaxed at the thought and let his arm rest along the back of the couch.
What better a place to conduct business? The wards, the woman’s wicked bewitching, it all worked in her favor in ways he had never thought to utilize magic. Even the vampire’s attention was woefully distracted by its effects with only a handful of beating hearts in the room… a full house would be another story.
Then came the second item of their meeting. The vampire’s head physically turned toward Agnes when she spoke of a casino to come, and his brow rose. She was bloody serious, he thought. His face didn’t hide the fact. Dominic could have prepared a thousand speeches of how a casino wasn’t a stray cat to take in, but he knew his place to speak in the room.
“Thus… solves my guilt of winning,” Dom mused under his breath with a smile, looking down as he said it. His gaze fell back on Mercy but didn’t stay long when the parcel was brought out. By the time it was left in Agnes’ hands, he could have already guessed.
When the witch opened the floor to Dominic, he paused a moment in thought and shifted needlessly in his seat. “-What music do you listen to… my dear?” The arm came down from the couch and his hand slid down to rest on Agnes’ thigh. “I don’t only gamble in casinos, and… I’d be curious to see where our interests in the magical world align. Not to mention, I have a colleague at Paradox who might fancy meeting you... has Karma mentioned my work?” His eyes wouldn’t leave Mercy. All the while, the vampire’s thumb stroked Agnes' thigh gently.
Was he stalling?
Productively, perhaps.
A smile crept across Dominic’s lips. He placed a peck on top of her head before he clicked his tongue. “Little old record shop, littl’ basement of chaos… Casino, why not? How many more humans could I hire?” The man’s voice dripped with sarcasm. It wouldn’t stop him from listening, even giving an audible hum to Agnes’ prospect. “If… you need someone to test surveillance, surely I could take a break from the slots,” He proposed teasingly.
Dominic felt the grasp on his wrist once he stood, and paused. There wasn’t any hesitation when Agnes reeled him in. His hand found her cheek for the kiss, leaving a trace of coolness on her skin. His lips seemed to linger close when it had come and gone, eyes closed. When they opened? A pinch of animosity shone in his golden eyes. It might have been felt more than it was seen.
“Territorial,” Dom corrected under his breath. “...Wouldn’t you be?” Another quick kiss was stolen before he pulled away from her and headed to the door.
The man’s brow furrowed not long after and he turned around sharply. “Agnes where in god’s name did you find a bloody dragon i-” He started and was cut off, staring at her for signs of sarcasm. His freshly-fixed hair was swept through with an exhale of exasperation. Without another word he opened the basement door, ushering her up the stairs first.
“I wouldn’t bring up the bloody thing. I’m content knowing wherever it is, it isn’t in my shop…” Dominic’s voice echoed up the stairs, leaving the cryptic end to the topic by the time they were at the top. The curtain was parted once he had what he needed. Daggers were still stared toward the man in the entry, if only for a moment. Dominic gave Rigel his brief eye contact, followed by a slow nod. He had looked just long enough to see if he could pry on what hid behind the set of shades before he slipped his own on. Dahlia’s prophesied boredom in the record shop had turned her to restocking and unpacking. Dominic was practically ushered out the door in the process.
“By the door where it belongs, don’t you worry,” the vampire answered Agnes listlessly and swiped the small black bundle on their way out. It was left in its wrapping when the car outside pulled up, and they were off to their destination.
-/-
“A witch? How long has she held her faction of the city?” His quick answer wasn’t disdain, but it wasn’t immediate excitement either. No matter the response, they were on the move.
The silence in the car was kept until spoken to. He could have been charting their path, or passively monitoring the stranger in the front seat. Dominic’s attention shifted to Agnes contemplatively. “I knew you were there the moment you stepped out of the dark. You would… do best not to sneak up on me, Chiot, particularly when wounded,” The vampire’s voice was strangely nonchalant. He tipped his head toward her. He hadn’t thought of the night they danced in a moment. He certainly hadn’t thought of the details swirling in her mind the same way. Dominic slowly held a hand across the seat for her and his voice lowered.
“I may have been… colorful with my explanation that night, I’ll admit. I know I came off too forward, but, I wanted you to hear me.” If she took his hand prior, the vampire’s thumb stroked over the skin gently. “It isn’t a physical desire, Chiot, it goes far deeper than that. That burning feeling pulls at everything inside of you. Take any need for air, any hunger, any desire you have ever felt, and amplify it. Make it… Insufferable. You could take centuries to gather a sense of control, but accept that it never leaves…
…Then take every enemy, every stranger, every loved one you’ll ever have, and give them the potential to Set. It. off.” His index finger gingerly tapped one of the veins in her hand to the cadence of the words. His voice lowered to a whisper he knew she would hear. “How would you go about protecting your loved ones? How would you make them understand? I promise that I’ve done everything I can since we returned from London.” Dominic's hand squeezed hers. He brought it up to his lips. “I know you aren't afraid... but even for a moment, I can’t lose you. That isn’t an option.”
-/-
When they found themselves in the quaint knitting shop, Dominic could feel the subtle pressure past the door. As they made their way in, he let his eyes wander while his senses did a sweep. Linen, settled dust, and an incense he couldn’t quite place. When Agnes spoke up, Dom’s head wouldn’t turn right away but his eyes did. He finally turned when the bookcase revealed their next path.
The vampire's hand trailed listlessly on the wall as they descended downstairs. The space had an energy to it—a vibration. He could feel the wards deepening just as Paradox posed its own subtle threat to visitors. This was a different sensation. It only took a brief sweep to catch the sight of red hues staring back at him. Dominic hesitated. His hand lowered to subconsciously run a thumb across the surface of his rings, doing inventory. The red lights that engulfed the space shone off his now pale, lackluster complexion. It gave a false sense of liveliness like that of a funeral home.
Dominic’s gaze shifted toward the woman when she spoke. Through the candles, cigarette smoke, and the wards spreading his senses haywire, there was still something strikingly familiar about her that he couldn’t place. His attention bounced to Agnes’ heart rate when the two embraced, searching for anything out of the ordinary… nothing yet.
“Madam, a pleasure,” Dominic greeted cordially. He gave a slight smile, and let his head give a slight bow. He took one glance to Agnes and joined her in taking a seat. “Do the bulk of your studies rest in enchantments? It must be lucrative, in a city like this,” The vampire commented.
Then, it clicked. The scent snapped back to a time and a place. Perhaps several over the years, never to cross paths in the ebb and flow of the casino atmosphere. “Hm,” The man grinned. There was a glint in Dominic’s crimson eyes that was a tad more sinister than the warm facade he normally posed.
“If I am, then thank you, and… my apologies,” The vampire jested with a tilt of his head. “Thirty years ago, the casinos built my foundation here. I only visit to clear my mind, as of late.”
